I don’t need any stinking straps...

A woman in the Sea Ray Owners group on Facebook said that this happened around the corner from her. She commented thusly, "If anyone wants to know what happened: (besides no safety straps) they were speeding and tailgating a black dodge ram in front of them. The black truck slammed on the breaks after deciding they weren't going to go through a yellow light after all. The white truck stopped quickly, causing the Regal to catapult over and land on the black trucks bed, then bounce back and land on its owners truck." [errors in the original]

Didn't deploy the airbags in the Ram. I would hate to be on a motorcycle in front of him. It would have stunted my growth.
I remember a similar sight in Salt Lake city in 1984, where a Sea Ray was sitting on 45th south after the tow vehicle and a cement truck collided. The boat was sitting on the asphalt, free range style.

Since the bimini is still up I would assume he just left the ramp and bunks were still a little wet and slick. It's always a good idea to have a heavy chain and turnbuckle going from the bow eye down to the trailer at a slight backward angle. It's the strongest prevention in an abrupt stopping accident like this.

my 250 had a turnbuckle that went from the bow eye down to the upright on the bow stop framing. the turnbuckle was pointing slightly forward at the top so i'm sure that could have been broken in a heavy impact but it was secured pretty good. also had 2 rachet straps on the transom hooks down to the trailer.

Probably was a short run they make regularly and they are complacent.

They absolutely needed a bow toward the rear strap. My 270 set-up has a 20,000 lbs. strap from bow eye back 6-8 feet to a strong support. The greatest force a trailer boat gets is hard braking.

Like many boat trailers I see, the winch strap was probably rotten and snapped quickly.

Like many boat trailers I'll bet the brakes on the trailer suck at best and may not work at all. Then the aforementioned braking forces are multiplied as all the force comes from the truck and little to no braking from the trailer. To safely stop my 270 the trailer has disc brakes on all axles and electric over hydraulic master cylinder set so it will stop the truck in a panic situation. Much lower force on the boat that way.

Rear straps do not hold the boat, they just stabilize the stern.

And the owner is likely saying "it is just a short run we make all the time...".

The Honda Generator must have been catapulted into the nearby field. It's missing from the swim deck. Hehehe.
