Just received an email inviting me to "reclaim my Active Captain ID". I was aware that Active Captain was bought by Garmin and have heard a couple rumors concerning Garmin's plans for membership, but nothing concrete for some time.
Garmin hasn't asked me for money, but they do want me to create a Garmin account and link it to my old Active Captain account.
Before committing to something new I thought I'd check on here to see what the general attitude is toward the "new and improved" Active Captain. Is it still worthwhile? Do members still have full access to the data without having to pay some kind of fee? What have those of you with Active Captain accounts chosen to do and does it still work the same way it used to?

I received the same email. Haven't done any thing with it yet.

Same email.

Been an AC user for years. Love it.

I had to do something since my old Garmin app on the ipad quit updating.

Created a new id, went to a different app that would include give me updates. Used that on the most recent trip.

I think the main reason for retrieving the old ID is to merge the accounts and reclaim the captain points. Not sure if that is of value to me. Not sure if I will go through that or not.

One observation is the data on AC. Found issues with what I was seeing. For example said a bridge was abandoned - bascule bridge in Kent Narrows. Had I relied on AC only would not have known that it was still very much alive and had to be opened. Seems like (only a personal observation) it is not getting updated from the community as often.

Still a great tool.

I put Aqua Map on my iPhone and iPad. Great app, has Active Captain, anchor drag feature, Waterway Guide, satellite photos, land-based info, etc. Highly recommend.

Aqua Map is what I put on my iPad. Was happy with it.

Navionics is supposed to have AC data in the future. Last I saw was sometime in the summer.

I am anxious to do the upgrade on my chart plotters. Will be able to get AC there as well.

I have a Garmin MFD and run the ActiveCaptain app on my iPad. This combo will sync all the ActiveCaptain community data to your MFD such that it shows up right on the charts. You can also do firmware updates and chart updates without having to move the card around from device to device. The price is right ($0).

This is what makes sense since Garmin bought AC. But this isn't my reality. I have a new Garmin MFD and I run the AC app on my phone. They sync, but the doesn't display on the MFD. Garmin told me it wouldn't at this time. How are you getting it to display?

Garmin pushed out a firmware update a couple weeks ago that enabled the AC data to be pushed to your MFD. I don't know if this functionality is intended to work with all Garmin MFDs. FWIW, mine is the 7610xsv.

Awesome! I'll need to get the update. Mine is the 942xs so I assume it'll work too. Thanks for the info.

I have 7612xsv's. Was told by Garmin it was ready to go.

We have just been in the midst of a long trip. Will prob upgrade over the next month or so.
