I know I’m on the cusp of boat age for this thread. But I have a 1990 180 that I adore. It’s an amazing and solid boat. Any ideas of how I can fix the cracking in these seats without a complete overhaul?

Nope. Just enjoy it this year and save the repair for a winter project.

You might be able to find a shop to tear the seat apart and replace the sections that are bad.

So that’s a big fat no on that liquid vinyl repair stuff? The rest of the cushions are pristine.

Check on sailrite and their videos show you how to make new covers for your boat. I did the side custions on my small bayliner boat and made a fold down seat for my 77 searay sundancer 240 srv, it really isnt that hard to do. They have all the material and supplies you would need, all you need is a sewing machine. Use your old covers as a pattern. All you'll need is the vinyl, piping, and thread. Your foam should still be good and perhaps the plywood.

If you had a tear or a little cut on otherwise good condition vinyl I would say sure. In fact the previous owner of my boat did some minor repairs to some edges and what looked like one burn mark and it's holding up very well. If the vinyl is compromised I'm not sure your efforts are going to hold up. And might make it look worse.

There may be vinyl repair people in your area that can repair just sections. See if they will provide references and examples of their work on nearby boats.

I agree, get it fixed by replacing the inlays or the whole cover. I did all my own with ease just use your existing panels as guides and sew them up! well worth the 2 hrs it took and not expensive. If your not willing to do your own sewing the I would atleast strip the covers and find a shop that probably do it for you that would save some $$ too.

I might also suggest that you get the little fisherman in your picture a fishing outfit that he would actually be able to catch a nice fish with. I have a rule and that is your kids should have equipment to use that you would use. Don't want to turn them off fishing.

He just tuned 3. This is a pole to teach him to cast and reel. The little fish in the end is weighted. It’s a tool to get him ready for a real Pole. And no, I’m 100% not letting my 3 year old have a pole with a hook, not yet. But I appreciate your input!!!

I see what your up to thats a good idea, Just purchased my grandson(2 1/2) a setup when I was visiting them now it's up to his dad to take him out I live to far away( Nevada/Alaska). Have fun with your little one.
