Looking for some help! We have a 2002 320 Sundancer. After unplugging the shore power the port engine will start. If I turn it off and try it again it won't fire. Tested the battery for that engine and it tested fine. The starboard engine fires right up but that volt meter doesn't read anything. Is it that simple that the alternator wiring is reverse and the port alternator is bad? Could it be something else?

The engine won't fire or it won't crank. Huge difference in symptom that makes a big difference for the potential problem and solution.

How did you test the battery? What voltmeter? Are you referencing the voltmeter at the helm or are you using a good DVM to measure voltages?

If you don't have a good handheld digital voltmeter, you should get one. They're invaluable for diagnosis. Normally I'd recommend a Fluke, but I just bought a B&K Precision 2712 to backup my aged HP 974A workhorse. Good meter and priced a bit less dear than the equivalent Fluke.
