Correct me if I;m wrong, all the videos I have seen on this installation only show chain operation. Does anyone know for sure it this windlass wlll accept chain and rope applications? Thanks

I installed a lewmar v700 (not sure about g?) Verticle windlass in my 260da and I used a chain rope combo. Obviously you need to get a proper size chain and a proper splice.

Thanks a bunch Kevin. I was almost sure it should except a chain and rope combo, just wanted to make sure before I press Buy it Now online.

I installed this as well on my 290ss and it does take rode and chain. I used 8 plait. It works great.

I thank you for your input. I did place my order yesterday! Now I just have to decide if I have enough room to install foot controls also at the pulpit.

QT1, please keep us posted on your progress. I'm right behind you and will probably do this over the winter. I'm torn between rop and chain and figure chain is a one time purchase while rope will have to be replaced at some point. But, I'm not entirely sold on chain either! I guess I don't hear many issues retrieving chain as they age.

I'm considering the Plasteak bowpulpit hoping that will alleviate some of the install issues with the winch, wiring and foot controls.

Hey Sundancer: You must be reading my mind. I contacted Plastek to ask about their bow pulpit, and of course the ones already made are for 34 and 39 foot SeaRay's. I would think for a 300 it should be about $200.00, but havent received an answer yet. From their website i'm also considering the trim lumber cut to size. The other option is PVC lumber 1/2 inch or 3/4 thick cut to the size of the pulpit.

If not it should not be that hard to wire in a wireless remote control for up and down control.

The only concern I have with that being in the anchor locker is reviews where people have talked about corrosion and eventually going inoperative.

i'm doing one, now. yes, accepts both chain and rope. i'm stuck, temporarily, on getting the shaft out of the old benson pulley. going to buy a bigger hammer, i think!

thanks, so much. nice job. i'm actually okay with the installation--what i need is to beat out this benson, which is installed with no foresight into the idea that anyone would want to change it--or that it would ever malfunction!!

Kevin, great job on documenting your installation! My plan of attack has to start with the bow pulpit replacement with PVC lumber templated to the original size, then expoxy the original holes where I know my water intrusion is a culprit .

Keep me posted on your request for a bow pulpit from Plastek! I'm interested and maybe they'll make a deal on two? LOL!!

Well Sundancer, I talked to Plastek and could not get a straight answer as to the cost, so I am ordering white marine lumber to mirror the sizing the the original bow pulpit from Boat Outfitters as a custom piece, about $189.00. It looks like this project will not happen as soon as I would like, but I will start the wiring, circuit breaker and switches.

I have 100' of chain and 100' of rope and it works perfect. I did buy it spliced together.
