40 sedan bridge forum

Is that for the non-turbo model? I didn't find the turbo version for that low price anywhere.

I have a VTD16K-410A. Mine came in $1600 and change.

Right now Hodges Marine has them with free shipping for $1878. IMarine has them for $1793 and free shipping.

Of course we are in the middle of the season, come this winter there will be even better deals.

Zincs on shafts? Yes or no?... boat was pulled for bottom paint and there was what was left of a zinc on Starboard shaft but Port was missing... I’ve read all sorts and there seems to be mixed opinions... thoughts?
No. Take them off and never put them back on.

My first 2 years with the boat I used them. The first year, one fell off mid-year. The second year, both fell off... and I'm pretty sure that it dinged a prop when it fell off. This year, I didn't put them on at all.

I removed the shaft zincs 4 years ago, and have not seen any problems. You have plenty of grounding / bonding through the transmission to keep your running gear protected.

Thanks for the unanimous verdict from everyone... NO ZINCS ON SHAFTS... boat back in the water now... without zincs on shafts... thanks to everyone!

See attached photo... I could NOT get these marks off the waterline on the starboard side... I tried pretty much everything (It Works (no it doesn't), acid wash, compound, even 2000 grit wet and dry paper (yes, I know... I went very gentle, but still - ouch!))... does anyone have any better ideas?... I'm leaning toward removing the stripes and moving the bottom paint up an inch or two next season... meanwhile, does anyone have any ideas on cleaning the hull and/or moving the paint line... replace stripes or leave them off? Thoughts?

How about a magic eraser? They've worked wonders in many applications on my boat. As far as the stripes go... I plan to remove only the gold one in the off season. I think it dates it. I removed both stripes from the bridge a year or so ago and love that clean look much better.

Did you try Starbrite Rust and Stain remover? It does a decent job on any of the staining I get.......

Tigger are you sure it's a stain? Looks like some kind of adhesive residue from masking off for bottom paint. I just had a bottom paint job and I have a few spots that look just like that from the tape. My normal fiberglass stain remover didn't do anything. Mine has a raised feel to it so I am going to try to scrape it off.

After a 2nd look at the picture, Bill is spot on. You can try an acetone, or lacquer thinner (small areas, avoiding the stripes and bottom paint)

Forgot to mention, yup... tried magic eraser too... no joy :-(

It's residue from growth that the pressure washing couldn't/didn't shift... per my post, I did try (gentle) 2000 grit wet and dry sanding (wet), which I would think would be the same as scraping?... even more aggressive?... but perhaps I'll take a plastic scraper to it?

Thanks for all the advice on my stain... will let you know what (if anything) works...

I couldn't find that unit on either of those sites. I will call tomorrow.

Double check that you can use your existing SMX controller with that unit. You can with the turbo unit. I did need to buy about a $15 cable extension for the controller. Also the turbo unit has a nice plastic condensate pan, not metal. But it's hose connections are opposite that of your current unit. I had enough hose to make the bend to connect, but some on here have needed to extend the hose with an in-line fitting.

Has anyone installed a washer/dryer combo on a late '90s model? I wonder if one would fit in the unused space under the stove; does anyone have the dimensions under the stove?

I looked at doing this. Not enough height. Would require modifications. Next place to consider would be where the fridge is located and getting a half height fridge, may have to move the micro. I opted to have my wife hand wash our clothes instead....just kidding on the last part.
