After a beautiful day on the water, I come back to dock to find my A.C. pump lost prime. Tried back filling thru outlet to no avail. Had to pull hose off pump inlet to get water flow from strainer then unit worked fine. Should I be closing the sea cock when runni g on plane? 89 300 DA. Happened once last year too. BTW March pump.

I don't know what to say about your situation. Our pump has never lost it's prime. If it has only happened once before, try it again before you overthink it. How old is your pump? Perhaps the impeller is worn to the point where it can't hold it's prime? Does it lose its prime while on the dock?

I burned up an A/C pump 2 years ago, so I had the new pump installed and a bleeder valve placed on it to allow air to escape. Only happens when we splash the boat in the spring though.

It's possible the seal on your sea-strainer is going and allowing air into the system.

Never looses prime at the dock. Pump is about 3 seasons old. Seems running the boat pulls a vacuum on the strainer.

My last boat had a Mermaid AC unit and lost its prime every time I left the dock. The manual even suggested closing the sea cock prior to leaving due to air being introduced while underway. That was a hassle, but better than repriming it every time.

My current boat has never lost its prime. No idea why.
