Compression testing while exhaust system is removed...

Thanks folks. Good replies. I already have the exhaust pieces off, hence the question. I thought that since I have easy access and it is a relatively simple process, why not go through the exercise as I am waiting for my new manifolds, risers and elbows.

How do you get to bilge pump??

Ron, At least you can see your bilge pump. Even if I remove pieces and parts I can't see mine. Unless, of course, I remove the entire engine...

Compression testing while exhaust system is removed...

Can this be done safely? I have researched the existing threads. Nothing specifically addressing this. Having the manifolds/risers/elbows obviously makes it easier to access the spark plugs for removal. However, the engine will not be warm. How critical is it to have the engine warmed up...

How do you get to bilge pump??

Thanks for the feedback. Yes, there is a removable cowling at the front of the engine (supports the seat/engine hatch), but still doesn't leave much room. There is also a removable port side panel. Not much access either way. Why the heck would an engineer put a bilge pump under the...

    Exhaust elbows and manifolds

Thanks Bucit. Here's to hoping that it is indeed easier. Finally got them off without damage. Looks like dishsoap is a go!

How do you get to bilge pump??

Hey Dennis, Is there a better answer to accessing the bilge pump? I can see where it is (kind of); but it seems that repair work has to be done by feel. How is it possible to see where it is located?

    Exhaust elbows and manifolds

Thanks. I did read the threaded rod trick. As I noted in my post, I have performed research on the site. That includes searching and reading all of the threads that have exhaust, riser, manifold and all combinations of those words. No mention anywhere about the hoses at the bottom of the...

    Exhaust elbows and manifolds

OK, after doing some research on here I decided to take a swing at the removal of my exhaust elbows and manifolds. The only difficulty that I ran into was the removal of a couple of water hoses located at the bottom of the exhaust manifold. Didn't see a reference to these hoses in any of the...

    Charging house batteries while trailering.

All this sounds like way too much work and more parts to corrode/break. Get a jump pack. All you need to de is get the boat started and let the alternator do the recharging work while underway. If you have to monitor things that tightly then it sounds like you need a new battery...

    Alternate Speaker Placement

This is why I want the alternate speaker set up. Tired of enjoying my music and then to have some jack a$$ pull right next to me in a fishing boat; with right and left speakers on the console cranked up high and them and their crew hanging out on the other side. Use the f'n balance control for...

    Alternate Speaker Placement

Would be an at anchor solution. Interesting idea. Inexpensive and effective. Something that I will have to look into. Where did you get the speaker?

    Alternate Speaker Placement

Another year, another contemplation of upgrading the sound system... But this time I am going to do it!:smt038 I am looking for alternative locations for speaker placement. I would like to have some clean music on the outside of the boat but do not have a tower to mount speakers on. What...

2 Two Month Long Cruise PCB to St Pete

The area is also EXTREMELY rocky. Not like being further south in Clearwater. Here you can miss the channel and hit sand. There, you miss the channel and you really are on the HARD! Great stuff. Thank you.

    SmartCraft to NMEA interface

So does that mean I have to spend $550-$600 on a MercMonitor to interface with my $600 Lowrance HDS-5? Seems a little rediculous. But then again, it is Mercury. I seem to remember that with the old Navman/Northstar units that you could use a simply gateway cable that ran about $125. But then...

    SmartCraft to NMEA interface

Hey 66pony, I know that this is an old post, but I have been researching the SmartCraft interface question and the Lowrance HDS unit that replaced the Navman/NavStar units is what I am specifically looking at. Were you able to get the interface to work? I was shopping Turtle Marine and on the...
