Just read a consumers report that stated the Kirkland (Costco's) marine/deep cycle were very highly rated.
Unfortunately for me, I found that over the winter my batteries were "dead" after being on my Sterling Pro Charge, and I replaced with ones from Menards (budget tight.... expecting a little...

I'm sure launching was no issue at that hour, but how was the return? Since DNR police no longer patrol the marina it has been getting crazy there, and unfortunately the local police have little/no jurisdiction. Marina "Security" kids just sit and watch the mayhem.
Unfortunately the city/village does not have much input on the event, or as much as they want to. Granted the events were far less than spectacular than previous years, and I agree, such a shame. However, considering that the village sees $0.00 in tax revenue or otherwise from the operation of...
Thanks for the pointers. Don't run "balls out" much, mainly pleasure cruiser. Run it WOT from time to time to blow out the cobwebs. If/when I do it I'll let you know...
Thanks again.
Indeed. Original motor- best I can tell. No hour meter to tell how many are on it.
Looked into having the heads re-done and hardened seats inserted, but cost is way too much- $700-800. Will do it if I had to, but cost outweighs the benefit or fuel savings at this point. Just goes to show, if you...
I was boarded and inspected 3 times in 1 season, my first year out. I had valid Michigan registration launching in Illinois, near the Wisconsin border. Twice it was the coasties, once ILDNR. Since the registration has been changed to IL have not had any issues.
They asked for a copy of the...
1973 Mercruiser 888 (188HP 302).
Sticker on it states 93 octane leaded gas.
I always add the lead substitute to the 93 octane, but another thread in here mentioned screw the 93, just use 87.
What is the harm in doing so? With the 93 prices climbing ever higher, just looking at options.

Finally launched the 24 footer out of Northpoint today (Lake Michigan). Was a bit rough to get to this point (leaky gas tank, carb issues).
Nice enough day today, but had to stay on the move.... too many black flies! They were awful!
Any tips or ideas how to keep them at bay?
Thanks!
I have a '73 240SRV with a 888 power plant.
Not knowing the history of the engine too much, and because I lack top end power (max is about 4500 RPM @ WOT), I am looking at rebuilding my carb. I do have another off of a salvaged 302 sister motor (888 circa 1976), but the carbs are different...
I usually launch from Northpoint. No slip- just trailer the 24 footer. I live just 1/4 mile from the launch.
I have also used John Rich Signs in Winthrop Harbor for boat lettering- more so for the boat name, not for numbering.
His prices were reasonable, great quality, and durability.

I just purchased mine from here:
http://www.zorotools.com/g/Butyl%20Tape/00012551/
It is 3 inches wide, and works great for the bow rail mounts I had to re-bed. The trimmed off pieces I used for the screws.
Great price, fast shipping, and they send coupon codes from time to time.

I have a 1973 and 1974 SRV240 CC, and agree, looks like a CC.
Let me know how I can help.
I am parting out the '74, so if you need something, hit me up!
