This post is primarily an FYI regarding a recent dangerous event. The storage building for my 5.0 MPI B3 2004 240 Sundancer was recently hit by lightening. Nothing obvious, no visible issues with the boat which was plugged into a 110 outlet to maintain the batteries.
Taking the boat out a week...
I wanted to post my outcome to recent problem as I hope this post will help others. Last weekend was the first time back in the water. All went well but my Smartcraft speedo was inoperable. I have spent 5 days trying to solve the problem. The pitot pick-up tube for the speedo begins with a small...

I too did months of research. I chose this system http://www.monitorpro.com/ by Monitor and ever looked back. After five seasons and hours of use it has been flawless. It is an excellent system with outstanding customer service.
IF you are a good wrench you can do yourself, I did...
A word of warning - when you re-install the cable don't overtighten the nut on the outside which will overly twist the inside nut on the cable housing. I did so and cracked those little aluminum arms on the inside of the bell housing where the cable inserts on the backside. The local dealer said...
Save the fogging for your carb-ed outboards. I take off the fuel/water seperator filter. Pour off some gas, add Mercury 2-cycle oil and run for 5 minutes. This is per the mercruiser manual.
Fogging can do unpleasant things to your intake as well as fogging can gum up your injectors.
Word of...
Ditto on the Simrek drive shower. I had my B3 drive oil fluctuate quite a bit on after runs on plane for 1-2 hours. Added a drive shower and now I see little to no change in the fluid levels between cold to hot.

Trailered boat. Stored inside, heated ~ 60 degrees min. No catagory in poll for inside heated and AIR CONDITIONED? Darn. Own my own warehouse. Boat only sees sun on weekends when it is floating. :smt038 However, it is difficult to have your boat 20 feet from your desk.
I simply love the...
I have the rig back together and had two conversations with Kodiak. This particular caliper and bolts was a new replacement in 2010. They asked for the bolt which I will send them. I'm not the kind of person who attacks companies in situations like this. However, if they have some issues with...
Thought I would share some information about trailer brake calipers. I have a Load Rite Aluminum I-beam trailer with Kodiak 225 disk brakes in all four wheels. These are linked to a Dexter electric over hydraulic unit and Dodge in-cab controller. A simply incredible system that has performed...
I just finished a complete transom bellows replacement on my 2004 Bravo 3 5.0 Merc. After 7 years the bellows were tired, but not as completely shot as you might think. The boat is trailered and frankly only in the water when the boat is being used. I pull the lower unit every year for routine...
You should have no problems. Someone is either mis-informed or teasing you. I launch a 240DA every weekend from all kinds of ramps. Shallow (low sloped) ramps just require me to back-in a little further. Rest assured that your boat will float long before water gets into the motor. The only way I...
Even checked with my local dealer this morning - where I got all my new parts and he can't even find it. I am going to pursue getting a copy of the Bravo 3 manual - with the nice offer above. I will report back when I find something solid.
All of this makes me wonder how Merc Service...
I am just finishing a complete 2004 Bravo 3 replacement of all bellows, shift cable, speedo line, trim senders, everything from the transom plate to the bell housing. However; I just reached the hinge pin installation and simply can't find the correct torque. Seloc states 145-lb. Some on-line...
Mine died after 4 years of light use. Unfortunately - after having my HVAC/Refrig tech spend some time on it - we determined they are a one trick pony. They simply aren't worth re-building. I went to Defender which is only 20 miles from my house. Did the same Norcold system and it dropped in...
I have to chime in here. I am all about enjoying the journey a-n-d being an former sailor anything about 8 knots is a bonus. My 2004 DA with 5.0 MPI & Bravo III runs at a sweet spot of 3,250 rpms. The optimum trim is a slight kick up of the outdrive - 1.0 to 1.5 on the Smartcraft with a slight...
