The Excursion makes a great tow vehicle. I've got a V10 4x4 and it does great towing the 270 with twins. If I'm going a longer distance I typically will wait to fuel up until I get closer - no point in hauling 100 gallons of fuel around if I don't have to. Some have experience brake issues...
I was in a similar spot - one hose leaking on one engine and the adapter plate leaking on the other. Tried a new gasket on the adapter plate and it would still leak. It's not that difficult to just get down there and change out the filter so I eliminated mine. I had to remove #13 in the...
I saw a Facebook page asking for donations - they are trying to raise $50,000 to get the guy another boat. Don't see the replacement value being $50k but it is nice to see people trying to help out each other.
I had a similar problem on one of my engines. I was told the breakers can corrode and weaken over time and to try another. I checked the main power connections and didn't see anything out of place or loose. I replaced the breaker and haven't had an issue since. Of course - mine is a 96...
If your 4.3's are similar to mine you will have a fuel/water sep and then a filter screen at the fuel inlet on the carb. The fuel/water filter is about $8 at Walmart and the filter screen on the carb is a reusable one and will just need to be cleaned. The fuel pumps definitely go bad - but...
Yep.... I repowered this past year. I bought 2 reman'd 4.3's and had a good friend who has a part time marine business install them. The engines were ~$2600 each and included flywheel and starter. I then replaced- couplers, alternators, oil pressure sensor and switch, gimble bearings, boots...
Have a good trip - boating in the sounds around here is a bit tricky. Make sure you have updated charts or chip for your GPS as the water levels can be interesting at times. While the channel depths are usually quite good at 8 ft or more, the surrounding water gets skinny quick! Winds have...
The later F250s (and Excursions) had a higher hitch rating starting in 2001. The difference was the size of the actual bolts holding the hitch to the frame. Beyond that the only thing I would be concerned with would be the axle ratio. The ideal ratio for the V10s are 4.30s which will get you...
In my area you almost have to stand to avoid the crab pots! My 270 has a slider on the helm bench - wonder if that could be retrofitted back to the earlier models?
I don't think I would get in one.... here's a thread which went around a year or so ago.
WARNING - the pics on this link are nasty..... http://ltxtech.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-10833.html
My 270 is basically at the limit of the Excursion... couldn't imagine having a 330 back there! The 12k lb limit (with 4.30 gears on the v10 and diesel 3.73's) on the Ex includes passengers, gear in the truck, etc..... no way the driver was within limits.
