    rumbling alpha gen 2 drive

yeah it could be, our even the shaft to the lower half of the leg/waterpump. I don't think it's the main uj's broken otherwise I think youd hear some rattling or everything would lock up. until I can pull the boat out the water, it's all guesswork. I'm not gonna pull her out til around December...

no smells of rubber. the engine carried on running there was no clunking or rattling noises, just a total loss of drive

    rumbling alpha gen 2 drive

quick update, been out for a cruise on her today. I was cruising at 25 knots & I started hearing a whining noise, this lasted for about 20 - 30 secs and as I was about to back off the throttle there was a BANG & the boat came to a standstill. there is no drive in forward or reverse! whatever...

I need a new fuel tank

thanks for the tips  I'm gonna go for alloy again, mainly for weight reasons as my boat is quite well loaded. the current tank has lasted 22yrs (in UK saltwater climate) & I don't intend on keeping this boat for more than 5yrs . In the UK I believe the correct grade alloy Is 5083...

    rumbling alpha gen 2 drive

where the boat is still in the water, the prop stays mostly submerged when the leg is fully trimmed up. due to this I obviously can't get a "proper feel" to be able to make any judgement. I just wanted to get an idea of the work/process involved in changing the bearings (if needed) from...

    rumbling alpha gen 2 drive

I will try the suggestions but the gimbal bearing was new at the start of 2012 season & I rre-packed it with grease at the start of this season. the boat stays in the water till around Xmas, then I pull her out for a few months, so I can't do anything til then

    rumbling alpha gen 2 drive

After going on a longish cruise a couple of weeks ago (2hrs at 20-25 knots), I'm now hearing a rumbling/droning noise, You can hear the noise most at slow speeds. The noise is only evident when the drive is in gear (either forward or reverse) I'm guessing that the bearings in the lower half of...

I need a new fuel tank

thanks for all the links guys. Shipping costs to the uk are huge. I've decided to build a new tank myself. I'm going to buy the sheet alloy, cut all the sections myself and get a local welder to tig it altogether for me

I need a new fuel tank

Hi cliff, thanks for the reply. The tank is aluminium so I suspect it's pin hole corrosion. I have converted my engine to efi so there's definitely no carb fumes. There is a company over here that make drop in replacement tanks but so far the only American boats they've done are bayliner. I...

I need a new fuel tank

Hi guys. I think the gas tank on my 220da is starting to leak. I'm getting the first signs of fumes in the boat (all fuel lines/breather hose/filler hose/sender unit are in good order) As of yet there's no sign of fuel in the bilge, but I think it's only a matter of time! My question is, are...

    another mercruiser overheating!!

UPDATE: The new thermostat housing arrived & i managed to fit it today & sea trial her. PROBLEM SOLVED  It was quite choppy at sea with 3-4 foot waves when i went out but i managed to cruise at 4200 rpm for 15-20 mins & the temp stayed steady at 155 degrees, she's never run that cool...

    another mercruiser overheating!!

Thanks for the suggestion, I will double check it, when i replaced that pipe the new one came with a new adaptor & i installed both the size adaptor & pipe with bellows adhesive There's no water leaking from there so i'd assume if water can't get out, then air can't get in

    another mercruiser overheating!!

When i fit the new stat housing i will check the current one in a cup of water as you say, i'm pretty sure its ok though because when the engine reaches stat opening tempreture, i can tell its opening because hot water gets released down the pipe to the hot water calorifier
