On my boat, the ice maker only runs from shore power or with the generator running. I installed an inverter in the cabinet, easy to run cables to batteries below. I can power the tv above the sink without running the generator
It is a bullet piercing valve, costs about $4. Placed on the low pressure line allows addition of refrigerant. I did mine 4 years ago and still running strong, knock on wood.
