For years the same 4 guys had always gone on a fishing trip. One year one of them said he couldn’t make it, to many items on the wifes’ list. On the appointed day the remaining 3 of them departed for the fish camp. Upon arrival they discovered the one who had bagged out was there. Sitting in...
My alternators behaved the same way, the grid heater was causing the voltage fluctuation issues. One side worked, the other didn't. After the grid heater fried its alternator, I disconnected the heater. no more fluctuations and I get 13.5-14 volts at idle after starting. The engines start just...

I realize this has probably been solved, in case not, there is an ECM update that came out a few years ago that cured the stall/stumble issue with the 480s. I updated mine and the problem went away.
BTW, the 2 batteries on the starboard side are wired in series to make 24 volts for the bow thruster. The port side are 2 banks of 2, wired parallel each pair starts an engine and serves as a house battery bank. One of the banks also starts the generator
All I can say is that you should order directly from Cummins through a Cummins distributer. That way you are getting the most recent version of a particular part, 4942463 is the updated head. That was the case in 2006 when the TSB was issued and in Jan of 2020 it had not changed. There were a...
I suspect you have moved on, in case not, if the boat has 480s and does not have the new/upgraded head, Cummins part# 4942463, I would ask for a 30K allowance to swap the heads. I rebuilt one after dropping a valve seat, swapped the head on the other. Cummins came out with a TSB in 2006...
John Karin at Solid Signal figured out my system on my 2005 390MY. 877-312-4547 or 248-893-3310. Direct TV was worthless, said they no longer supported the older systems. True to a point, but a new receiver and a couple of small items and it works fine.
Safe Harbour Oxford since the rebuilding is very nice. The Robert Morris Tavern is the oldest tavern in the USA. Robert Morris was George Washington’s finance guy. Great place to eat, about a mile walk along the water. A few shops and Brewers boat yard where some old wooden boats are restored...
The white Garlick table behind the helm is missing the gas cylinder that dampens the up/down. Garelick is no help. All the Searay parts manual says is that it is a 19"-29" gas cylinder. Before I try AutoZone, anyone have an idea where to find one?
