I was out on Lake Mead a couple of weeks ago when it blowing about 35 knots. The waves were between 3 - 5 feet in the open part of the lake. With the trim down into a head sea and the trim up with a following sea, it won't bury the bow or swamp the boat. I know taking a big green wave over the...
Hey everyone
I've just picked up a very little used 2001 240 Sundeck with 6.2 MPI and B3 drive. It's mechanically and esthetically sound. Anyway, I was thinking it would be quite an adventure to trailer the boat from Las Vegas to Marina Del Ray or Dana Point and then scoot over to the island...

I think the SDA designates the "Sportsman's Package" layout that is available for the 340. Instead of a U-shaped cockpit seat, it has a more open cockpit with a moulded fish box in the transom. See the pic here:
Hey Mike
I'm going through the same question. On the + side of the 38 (aside from just size):
- Better hull windows
- Better hardtop
- Fore cabin separated by hardwood door
- Separate head/shower (this can be really significant when cruising)
On the + side for the 350:
- The newer...

I am considering buying a new 340 DA, but I would prefer the Four Winns 358 (however, the FW dealer where I live doesn't bother with bigger boats). Here's why I think it's superior:
1. Better cockpit layout - people have already mentioned the lounger opposite the helm area. In...
Hey Skip
I always thought that I had replied to this last post, but clearly not. Sorry! Here's the latest: I got a call from the dealer sales rep and he said that the incentives had been extended until September 30th. The last price they quoted me was $225K, which was $20K less than their...
Hey Andre
Thanks for the response. And yes - when you have a 50+ footer, you can stay on the lake as long as you like!
I kind of agree about the whole "swimming with sharks" issue of the ocean, but there are plenty of "sharks" in Lake Mead as well. I don't usually discriminate, but several...

Here're my opinions, for what they're worth...
I currently have a Chaparral 300, which is actually a 29' boat, and it has twin 5.0 EFIs with BIII's. It performs really well. If you trim the legs down, it never has trouble getting up on the plane. On Labor Day weekend, we had 12 people...

Thank you (again) for your words of wisdom. It always helps to get other people's experiences as a backdrop. And the story you cite about the outgoing dealer not wanting to be on the hook is typical of the fact that we almost never know exactly what is going on behind the scenes
You...

I wanted to buy a 40' with gas engines, and everyone shot that idea down. I then started thinking, do I really want to ship in a 2nd hand diesel boat in, with all the problems I have with getting boats serviced at Lake Mead? There are no water-based service facilities here - every large...
Thanks Frank - that's all good advice. First of all, I was toying with the idea of getting a Sea Ray from an out-of-state dealer who seemed very willing to supply a boat to me, but in the end, I don't wish to wait months to get my annual service, or worse, repair a warranty item that makes the...
Thanks everyone!
I'm going to process this information, and more importantly, get my wife the "Rottweiler" into the negotiations. She's tough...
Thanks to Barry - I will call Jim Bennett and see what he has to say.
As always guys, I will keep you posted.
My dealer in Las Vegas has an '07 340 DA with V-drives, and well equipped with:
- Stainless windshield
- Flexiteak stairs/ktchen flooring
- Underwater lighting
- Additional TV
- Bottom paint
- Ultraleather interior
- $10K in stereo upgrades
- Bowthruster
- Bottom paint
- C80...
Hey guys
It seems there's a wealth of knowledge among everyone here, so I thought I'd run this up the flag pole. My MarineMax dealer in Las Vegas has a choice of two 340 DAs, one stern drive, the other V-drive. They have similar equipment, although the V-drive boat also has:
- Stainless...

I too have a boat at Lake Mead - Callville Bay, in fact. I think I may have seen your 510 DA, in the newer part of the marina. I'm thinking of getting a 420 DA - there's a really nice one in MI, and it's absolutely loaded. Even though I've had two boats at Lake Mead for the past 4...
