Hi Irie,
Figured I'd add my 2c worth as I've just made the move from a shaft drive to IPS Riviera.
Build quality on their newer boats is excellent and I asked a lot of people with hands on experience about the IPS before buying. The feedback from the mechanics working on them everyday was...
Hi Craig, I'm just around the corner from you at Saratoga. Small world. Had a Sea Ray until just recently when we swapped for a Riviera. Do you keep yours at Gosford?

I had a 48DA beforehand so moved from a Sundancer to a flybridge. The main reason was having kids and a lounge room with a view became a priority. We have a baby gate where the main door is and our toddler can run and dance around the lounge room burning off energy without us having to worry...
Are you looking at buying new? They are highly regarded here in Australia. The new ones look nice and they've stuck with shaft drives whereas Riviera have really focused on Pod drives up to 60ft.
This is exactly what happened to me. I went over the engines as best as I could and ended up just taking the extra 1/2" out of the prop showing the higher load.

Thanks for the replies. I've had experience with MANs before and do have an authorised service centre about an hour away. I agree the QSMs would be preferred so I might just wait for the right one to come up if the deal on the MANs boat isn't worthwhile.
Thanks for the replies. In that case, it looks like the salt water service will be a painful job. One of the boats I'm looking at has MANs so aftercoolers and heat exchangers are to be serviced every 2 years.
Thanks,
Paul
Hi,
Have tried searching but haven't found the answer. Considering moving from the 48DA to a 500 or 52DB as it probably suits how we boat better now. Is there much involved in lifting the lounges & saloon floor for good access to the engines? Access to the outside of the engines looks like it...
Yes, one of the best features of the boat and we would be lost without it. Perfectly clean for drinking. We go out once a year for two weeks straight and have done that without the 48 touching a dock. We just use the tender when we need to go to shore. We can hose the boat, have long showers...
Unfortunately, I can't help with this. But I am interested to know how it's done, mine's fairly rusty. No doubt I'll be looking to replace it soon enough.
