    What Power Steering to Use?

Does anyone know what Power Steering fluid to use on an 06 185 Sport w/Merc 4.3? I can't seem to find anything listed in my owner's manual and the level is a bit low. Thanks.

    Odd Hull Question

Oddball question: While detailing my new to me 2006 185 Sport earlier this evening I noticed that the bottom 1/3 of the hull from the transom to the center of the boat is a light brown in color, however only on the starboard side. I'm assuming it's from a water stain although this doesn't...

    Newbie Detailing Question

I got my new to me 06 185 BR home a couple of days ago and now have a couple of weeks to get it looking as new as I can before taking to the waters of Southern Ontario. A 'quick' question that I have is on detailing the white part of the boat above the rub rail. I'm sure there is a correct...

    2006 185 - Engine to Boat Price ratio? 60% Engine - 40% Boat?

Thanks everyone. I went with a 60/40 split.

    2006 185 - Engine to Boat Price ratio? 60% Engine - 40% Boat?

I am in Ontario where we pay full HST (13%) on a private sale of any vehicle vessel. You are correct that some provinces including AB do not pay any tax on a private sale (in addition to NWT, Nunavut and the Yukon).

    2006 185 - Engine to Boat Price ratio? 60% Engine - 40% Boat?

13% tax on the boat and no tax on the motor so savings are 'significant' enough (>$1,000) in IMO for printing and signing two vs one bill of sale Word docs. At a minimum it's a few tanks of gas and an entry level GPS unit. Cheers.

    2006 185 - Engine to Boat Price ratio? 60% Engine - 40% Boat?

Hi Dennis, my understanding is that the tax 'process' for a private sale is slightly different than that of a dealer (and an import differs further). I don't have to split the boat/motor however will pay less tax if doing so (more $ for other boat goodies). Thanks.

    2006 185 - Engine to Boat Price ratio? 60% Engine - 40% Boat?

I'm completing the purchase of my 06' 185 Sport tomorrow and need to create a bill of sale for both the motor and boat (Canadian tax purposes). The tax rate on the motor is less than that on the boat and I'm just looking for some guidance on applying a fair ratio/split. I was thinking 60%...

Newbie Question - Trailer Tongue Height?

Centre of my receiver is 19" so I'm leaning towards going with a 1" drop which would approx. bring the ball back up to the 19/20" mark. Thanks everyone.

Newbie Question - Trailer Tongue Height?

Thanks. Changed my signature boat - I was originally looking at a 175 when I joined the forum however ended up buying a 185. I believe the trailer has surge brakes.

Newbie Question - Trailer Tongue Height?

Thanks, single axle trailer. I'll probably ask the owner to do a quick measure for me so I can be as close to level as possible. Thanks.

Newbie Question - Trailer Tongue Height?

Newbie question: I forgot to measure the height of the trailer tongue off the ground and am in the midst of getting my vehicle (Honda Pilot) equipped with a wiring harness/tow bar. I'm picking up the boat 200 miles away so don't have easy access to stop by and do a quick measure. Does anyone...

    2006 185 - Battery Choice?

Thanks everyone. I will more than likely go the two battery route after my first season and pick up a new Group 24 deep cycle. The owner is throwing in a marine booster so if I'm a little too heavy on engine off time (which I doubt given it's my first season and I'll want to be under power as...

    2006 185 - Battery Choice?

Thanks. I will primarily be using the boat for doing some tubing/wake boarding with my kids and some general touring around the lake. This will entail some periods of anchoring while listening to music (engine off). I hadn't planned on a second battery but may consider doing so if my engine...
