Possibly choke open - because engine still hot but not hot enough ( too lean)
Giving it extra throttle, like you did, would start it
Sounds like everyone pointing to fuel/ carb issue. I seem to have to fiddle with my choke a little too much. Especially in early spring and fall.
And
What pertronix kit do you have? 1.5 ohm coil with resistance wire, or 3 ohm with resistance wire removed?
Any chance there is a mix up here, or resistance wire needs to be removed?
For what it is worth, I just have been having similar problems, and found my coil was shorted out. It seems...
Also you can check your voltage to the ignition. Connect your multimeter to the coil and see if you are getting enough voltage from the battery. Connect positive lead on coil and to a good ground, key on should be 12volfs. Try cranking and should have at least 8-9 volts ( I think) if not...
I have been down this road too - in fact having sim problem now. I think the pertronix ignition is better than points. Maybe first pull a plug and crank it with the pulled plug connected and grounded to the block, see if you get a spark in the gap. If no, try pulling the lead from coil to...
Looks like you have made a ton of progress. One thing I wish I had done at the point you are at is change all the trim switches on the out drive before you get the engine in and it is no longer accessible
Wish I had done it then before engine in and aligned.

I have the same boat that I rebuilt from the hull up and rebuilt the engine too. If you undertake that project all parts are available to do that job, but budget it as a multi-year project.
Hope I didn’t confuse. Totally agree that shift and steering cables should not go in pvc. Just at the stern those cables are pretty rigid and sweep where they want/need to get to their mounts. Just suggesting if you do put on a wiring conduit, you know where those rigid cable sweeps are.
The...
The white sides look sharp! I like it. Maybe before running the pvc wire conduit mock up the steering cable, especially near the stern. It is pretty rigid and don’t want any conflicts with where the pvc is.
Probably no problem, but better to know rather than need to tear out wire later.
When I did my deck I did chop strand on both sides before installing the plywood. Then installed and did 1708 on the top and think I reinforced the joints with more chop strand below the 1708.
I also removed all the vinyl from the sides below the shelves and gel coated white. I think it looks a...
I couldn’t really hear it, but would follow ttmott’s advice with checking the rocker arms. Easy to take off rocker arm cover with 5 screws. If an arm is really loose it will be easy to see and doesn’t cost anything to check. second you could check the lash on the bolts, hardest part is getting...
Great boat. I did the same rebuild on my 1975 180srv. Also have a bit of 2’-itis now. I recall when I did my rotten stringers they had been bedded in a green construction adhesive. From your photos I see some adhesive just below them. My guess is that was the original spec but not executed...
