Kohler 5ECD Not Running EC62, UU, UF

Maybe an issue with the heat exchanger - thermostat OK? FYI this is what it should look like: Just had to edit this - obviously the thermostat will have no effect on the raw water flow - it's in the cooling water circuit - doooh... Clutching at straws a bit here, but perhaps remove the heat...

Attala, Not sure if you mean you've removed all the hoses from the seacock onwards - if not I'd recommend that. I had an issue with an engine overtemp (main engine, not generator) and it was traced to the seacock/strainer hose having an internal failure, wherein the rubber had delaminated...

Sorry, I bought mine online from ASAP in Pennsylvania. The local guys keep very little in stock and certainly not high value items.

Ok, probably the final report on my troublesome genset. We had a mild summers day today, about 32 deg C, so we took the boat out with the intention of running the genset for an extended period, as requested by some of you guys, to confirm it will be happy with the cooling water bypass. . ...

Yep, that would explain the condition of your module. We're OK thanks. The fires are mostly on the east coast and are very severe - about 2000 homes and 30 lives lost to date I believe. Apparently there are some animated maps of Australia doing the rounds on social media showing the whole...

Just catching up with the recent posts - Stray Current - I'm guessing your boat has spent it's life in a fresh water lake. The module is pristine compared to mine and pyro's. Walbro / Kohler seem to have their head in the sand on this one - the module is simply not fit for purpose in a...

I think mine works because the genset is only run for relatively short periods, maybe up to 15 minutes. I did read somewhere that one owner started the genset at the dock and stopped it again at the end of the day. That might prove problematic if using the by-pass option. I agree that...

As promised, here's a follow up on my Kohler genset issues: It's been about 6 months since I by-passed the fuel pump/cooler module on my Kohler genset, running a hose directly from the raw water pump outlet to the heat exchanger inlet. All went well at the time - it started easily and ran...

Tony, Haaa . . you think that's corrosion?? Take a look at the photos on page 1 of this thread! Seriously though, if your boat has operated in salt water I would recommend removing the fuel cooler and checking it out, rather than just sealing the visible leak. It's not all that difficult to...

pyro, Remove the exhaust catalyst and clean the crap out of the 4 little slots around the outlet hole - refer my earlier post. You'll need to have a couple of 'O 'rings (gaskets) on hand to re-assemble it. Make sure you clean the slots in both the catalyst and the cast manifold on the genset.

OK, hopefully the final comment on the genset. Back to the boat again today to reconfigure the hoses back to the by pass position, and also to attend to another issue that came up yesterday that I didn't mention in my post last night - a bit of a recurring misfire. Although it started easily...

Harmon, When I bought my boat a couple of years ago my first exposure to the idiosyncrasies of the infamous Kohler genset was getting the EC72 code. The problem in my case was a blown fuse, F5 from memory. So, if you're new to the boat, before going any further I would replace all your fuses...

Kohler 5ECD Not Running EC62, UU, UF

I finally got to the boat today to undertake the fuel cooler module raw water by pass I've mentioned in an earlier post. It looks like this: Hose connection to the raw water pump with an elbow to get around the corner of the genset frame / control panel: Then up to the heat exchanger inlet...

Oops - I see pyro was responding as I was typing this - I'll leave my comments anyway - pretty much what pyro was saying. Chris, Yep, that's the fuel injector. Does the generator start, then chug along for a few seconds before stopping with the UU code? (Refer pyro's video in the first post...

I think the hose is water in and the smaller brass fitting on the top is water out (or maybe vice versa) Fuel inlet is at the top (side) of the filter and outlet is the larger brass fitting on the top (on the centreline of the pump)
