Sundancer 280 (315) and fresh water in the engine room

Hello all I have a Sundancer 315 (European version of the 280) and for some reason I get water in the engine room (under the engine). The water is fresh water (I have tasted it, the best way to be sure). I can dry up everything. But after 3-4 weeks, especially if there has been a lot of...

Replace trim tabs on Sea Ray 280

I have attached a photo of another Sea Ray 280, similar to mine, with the original 14x14 trim tabs. I see that there might be a problem using wider tabs, but what about longer (14" span, but 16" or 18" length) ?

Replace trim tabs on Sea Ray 280

The Sea Ray 280 DA comes original with 14x14 (special made) trim tabs by Bennet. I need more lift in my boat. It has a Volvo KAD300 engine, and it takes a long time to plane. Any tips about what Bennet trim tabs I can use ? And is it enought to change the plate ?

Hello Melida. I read in a thread that you have increased the size of your trim tabs on your Sea Ray 280, upgrading from the standard 35cmx35cm (14x14) to 40cmx50cm. Which trim tabs did you upgrade to ? The Sea Ray comes with trim tabs from Benneth, but I have not seen any 40cmx50cm...

Fresh water in the engine room

I have a Sundancer 315 -04 modell (280 in the US) with a problem. Or maybe it is a design flaw ? On each side, near the rear of the boat, there are "air holes" into the engine room. These air holes are tilted upwards. This makes it possible for rain to almost go straight into these holes...

Earth ground, boat ground and wiring

Thanks. The difference seems to be that in Europe you may disconnect items from shore power earth if you have a local earth. And the engine and sterndrive functions as local earth. But you answered parts of my question since you said that shore power earth is interconnected to the negative...

Earth ground, boat ground and wiring

Boat is Sea Ray 315 (280) with a Volvo KAD300 diesel engine. I did some checking, using a combinded ohm/volt-meter, to find out how the earth ground was connect in my boat. I found the following. Shorepower earth: This is sent through a galvanic isolator to the distribution panel in the...

Sea Ray 280 and acceleration problem

The engine (inkl duoprop sterndrive) has a combinded weight of 580 kg (1280 lb). This is approx the same as the Mercruiser 6.2L MPI with Bravo-III drive. Does anybody on this forum have this combination ? Can you give me some numbers (times) from 0 to 20 knots (23 mph) and maybe time to plane...

Coloured hull (blue) and bottom paint

Boat is Sea Ray 315 (280 in the US) with coloured hull (blue). It looks (and feels) like the hull is prepainted from Sea Ray. There is an extra layer of "something" on the part of the hull that is below the waterline. Do you use bottom paint on top of this ? The boat is in saltwater.

Sea Ray 280 and acceleration problem

The 2 ekstra batteries (2x100Ah) and the stern mounted anchor (with 50m chain) has a combinded weight of about 150 kg (approx 330 US pounds). So I do agree that the boat is stern heavy. But do you (or any other) have any suggestion about where I can install the batteries ? But since this boat...

Sea Ray 280 and acceleration problem

I thought I will just give an update (for other users who search this forum). I have replaced my propellerset from Volvo C4 stainless to Volvo C3 stainless. This improved my accelleration dramaticly. I now only use half the time from 0 to 20 knots compared with my C4 propellers. Here are...
