Install Trim Tabs yay or nay?

It might be boat dependent. I read some reviews that claims it worked for them in leveling. The actuators are designed to mount at an angle on a flat transom. On my curved transom they are vertical. I never had a off level problem before installing the tabs. I was more interested in better...

Install Trim Tabs yay or nay?

Just installed the self leveling tabs on my 180. I'm concerned that the fiberglass is all my screws are in. Drill went in and found nothing behind the glass. Also had to take the actuators apart to clean up the springs. Boat lists to the left a little which I never noticed before.

    SHORELAND'R White Plastic Fender #SK0121-01

Anybody found a replacement for the SHORELAND'R White Plastic Fender #SK0121-01 that isn't $180? I tried a pair of generics off Amazon that were close but no cigar. My 1999 180 was delivered on a trailer that was too small for the boat in my opinion and the fenders have limited space between...

Sea Ray really dropped the ball on the Bimini top frame design

The top on my 180 came across the rear seats making them unusable if stowed laying down. I solved the problem by purchasing a 8' top from usaoceansouth off eBay. They had a model that mounted to the same main hoop location and folded to lay behind the seats. I had to drill new holes for the...

    Which switch is which?

My sensor was full of grease and out of adjustment. The sensor on the right is for the gauge and the trim limit sensor is on the left side. It was easy to take the sensor apart and clean it. Adjusting was trial and error but I finally got it set so the gauge indicates on the lower line when the...

I think I have too much prop

Stan I hope you have this all worked out by now but thought I would inject a thought for you. I recently purchased a 99 180BR with the 135 HP 3.0. My tach and speedo appear to be very accurate. One thing I noticed that is critical for getting on plane is to have the trim ALL the way down when...

    Mercruiser 3.0 Noise

Finally got time to look at this some more today. For some reason it's not as loud sounding. It seems to be timed with the engine RPMs and sounds loudest at the timing cover so it may be timing gear related. I am going to test the decibel rating with the cover on and monitor to see if it gets...

    Mercruiser 3.0 Noise

Thanks for the replies. This engine appears to have timing gears, no chain. The online photo looks like it's a solid steel cam gear. I have seen fiber gears in Volvos break loose from the hub and sound just like a rod knocking. This is a pretty rhythmic tapping or knocking noise that sounds...

    Mercruiser 3.0 Noise

Pretty sure it's mechanical. I read a couple of places where the fuel pump arms wear and start slapping. If that is the case it would probably have the cam lobe for the pump worn. I had seen this scenario many years ago before cars had electric pumps and fuel injection. My first impression is a...

    Mercruiser 3.0 Noise

I recently purchased a 180BR with the 135 HP 3.0 Mercruiser. Today when I started it I heard some ticking that I don't remember hearing before. It seems to go away or can't be heard while on plane. Engine ran nice and smooth. Tachs out at 4400 RPMs and runs 43.5 MPH with two people and gear. It...

Took the 180 out to the first marker at St Marks Fl on Saturday. Had a pod of 15-20 dolphins swim around and under us for 30 minutes.

Bimini pad eyes aka strap eyes

They were and exact replacement on my 1999 180BR. I also bought new SS oval head screws that were #8 x 3/4" that also went in the existing holes and tightened good.
