I agree I was lucky, and I was concerned that the self piercing valve would leak.
The R134 I used contains a leak stopper.
I'm generally against using any product that says it will plug a leak, but in this case I figured I had nothing to lose

Glad it worked out a can per hole is quite a bit more than I would have used.
Make sure you change the oil, I'm sure a bunch of that starter fluid found it way past the pistons and into to crank case

1) Use Vice grips or a clamp and clamp off fuel supply to the engine. Crank the engine to remove any remaining fuel from the carb.

I'm having a little trouble understanding why the engine won't any signs of firing.
If you have spark, fuel and air it should do something, even if it were a timing chain.

I Had the same issue
With the breaker off unscrew the panel from the wall and gently remove the plug from the back.
Clean the connection, put it all back together.
It has worked for me.
