We had to do a little light sanding and buffing to get ours out... Then we added these drip guards from Amazon and they work GREAT! I was worried about the adhesive, but so far not the slightest hint of coming loose, even when I hit it with a hose during washdown.
Marine Fiberglass Direct...
Excellent idea and I'll likely do the same...but don't my motors spin opposite directions? If so, does the impeller orientation matter (which way I lay the impeller vanes in as I insert it into the housing), or will the vanes "reorient" themselves to the proper direction no matter which motor...
I ordered one and had it installed on a Maxum 2400SCR about 3 years ago....LOVED it, very sturdy and well made, and we especially loved the optional removeable P-handles for climbing out of the water that we ordered and I installed myself a year later. We were actually thinking about ordering...
Hey guys, I tried to do a search in our group and also the general discussion with no luck. 94 400EC with Bluewater carbureted 7.4 motors. We lost the port motor Saturday due to fuel flow. It will stay running with starting fluid sprayed into carb, or if I let it sit for 5 minutes or so it'll...
Does anyone keep their boat usable year-round? This is our first year staying in the water, our previous boats have all been small and trailerable. Our current boat is a 1994 400 Express Cruiser with bluewater cooling. We are in a marina that is a very low risk of freezing and has reliable...
Congratulations and best wishes for an awesome boating experience! There is PLENTY of technical expertise and good conversation to be had here, probably one of the best forums I use--I'm on it every day LOL
Your new boat definitely meets the criteria of also being called a yacht, be proud! The...
Sorry my words weren't clear--he's sandblasting and then magnafluxing looking for hairline cracks or weld breaks, and also checking for noticeable weak spots. If everything looks good he'll apply the Cerakote.
A plan in motion, thanks for the idea--spoke with a local shop that does high temp work. Manifolds will be sandblasted and then magnafluxed to check for cracks or weak spots. Assuming good, they'll then be ceramic coated with Cerakote (good to 1500 degrees) for $150 per side. I'm also having him...
Okay, definitely a leaking gasket on both risers (see pictures), letting coolant drop into cylinders 5 and 6, which probably caused the head gasket to blow into the adjoining two cylinders on each side. Play Date, I think it was an optical illusion on the "rear to front" blowing off the head...
Heads will be back from the machine shop Thursday to being putting everything back together....in the meantime, I'll be getting everything ready. Part of that is I'm going to pull the risers and manifolds apart with the expectation of reusing my SS risers. I'll run a scope into the risers...
So quick request for confirmation from you seasoned marine mechanics that I'm not doing something I shouldn't....
My boat is 100% freshwater since new. It has the OEM stainless elbows which theoretically shouldn't deteriorate in freshwater. Inspection looks like no sign of internal or external...
Yeah, the stainless plate with a gasket on each side seems like the bulletproof setup that will last a long time in freshwater only, WAY better than any single-ply flexible gasket. Definitely the route I'm taking on both motors, thanks again for the visuals
Thanks for the pics and info Play Date... I was under the impression that only dry exhaust used the full restrictors! Looking at the picture of my manifold/riser, it looks like the two hose connections on the manifold would be coolant in/out, and the connection on the riser is then raw water...
Traditional float switches that use a 2-wire setup are basically like a light switch--a simple "normally open" mechanical blockage of the flow of either + or - current until the float closes the internal switch by rising. Their advantages are that they are very simple devices and not much can...
Thanks for the tips! I have actually been shopping for and getting ready to do an order online for risers and manifolds for both engines, but didn't realize there were different options available other than just plain cast iron :) The only reason I hadn't ordered yet is because I notice when you...
