Regarding hollow stringers, look at the inside of the stringers where your motor mounts are bolted to the stringers. You will find a white plug about 4-5" wide (or just a hole if they have been removed). You pull that out to access the nuts for the motor mount bolts. Easy to check for water...
I have a 10BTD and have done it a few times. I have a shopvac running and pull the coolant hose off of the HE slowly while vacuuming in the coolant. It still makes a mess. Every time I do it, I think of installing a valve or something to make this easier, but so far, have not. Good luck!
The accumulator tank smooths out the water flow and the pump(s) cycle less. it is not a "have to have" but a "nice to have". If you are happy with your system, no need to add one.

Sure could be. I should have mentioned that as the same thing happened to me on a trip to Bimini in June. We were bouncing around pretty good for 3 1/2 hours. Once docked, I could hear the alarm. Found water by the water heater, but no leaks. Dried everything and no more issues.
