when i get a chance to pull it, o'll test it on 12v source to see whats happening and spray some stuff in there. wonder if merc power tune engine cleaner would be good?

yeah...i probably will get new if im pulling it off. I see ones ranging from $180 + down to like $70. I was hoping to find a compatible one in the lower price range. Whats the best way to find one cheaper.

one other question...is could the starter solwnoid which activates the lock on the starter shaft have failed in such a way as to the mechanism failed but still allowing voltage to turn the starter motor??

it was running fine when i put away over the winter...it sits outside covered so thinking maybe it rusted perhaps or gummed up.
