A little late to the party here. Agree on the VHF. Will add, for river boaters, it's much more helpful to the towboat captains to be able to broadcast a mile marker (from the river charts) than GPS position.
I used Global for years and always considered a mechanical problem something that we'd self insure. We later passed on a few older boats because I didn't feel we could eat a pair of diesel replacements.
Since we've already have some thread creep, can somebody explain what types of...
On the kid, consider moving her out and re-titling the car in her name at her new address. We had to do same after a few accidents. Looking to do same with the next kid to get her off our liability, too.
Great discussion. I've had my 50GT Master since 2009, and have been sitting on the fence regarding another renewal. I'd encourage anybody to get the learning and bragging rights. Having said that, I'm not sure if I want to jump through another set of hoops for the renewal.
I thought having...
On a lighter note, we educated our kids on the potential dangers of getting shocked by swimming in the marina (pun intended).
My son, about 10 at the time, was helping me wash our 210 SD. He slipped into the water, and I scooped him back out in a couple of seconds. He was standing there on...
Down to 2 kayaks this year after a year like his, and frankly never had a less stressful boating season! We'll get another one some time, but for now, it's a good mix of free time vs. hassles.
Good luck with the boat, and remember there's always another one.
I used to run a forum, and I had no issue paying for a sponsorship to keep CSR going, especially with the promise of no ads for sponsors. I don't even mind the boating-related ads.
Sitting here in my living room with the wife and kids around, the last thing I need is "flirty singles," and...
Here's a link to a KC news story with some video. Sad part is that those people had a long, long time where they could have been donning vests and prepping to evacuate.

I've had the pleasure of seeing about 1/2 of the loop helping friends move boats around between seasons. I'm hooked on the trawler design for a few reasons. Like Shawn said, there are a ton of locks. There are also countless opportunities to anchor. You can't beat having safe walkways all...
I had similar issues with an engine, boat had twin Crusader 454s. Spent weeks and lots of $$ on new parts until finally giving up and dumping some Sea Foam in the fuel. That fixed it right away (after 20 min running), was a fuel issue. From then on, I start there first. Later, genset issue...
I see this as a good summer to re-group on the rest of all things important, while saving for that diesel mega-cruiser I've always wanted. Yep, already been surfing for the next one, guilty!
Looking at some upgrades for the kayaks. New stereo with XM, sub and remote, radar arch, some fancy...
So here we are, oldest two kids in college and working their part time jobs. Last one in high school, but no time after all those activities. Wife got bored and decided a few years ago she'd rather be working again than hanging around all day waiting for me to come home to do stuff. Aging...
