Thanks guys, I was thinking about bypassing the transom housing hose. There is a pad, in the bilge right near the seawater pump, to put a scoop and seacock. Probably add a strainer as well. Back flushing is a good call as well. Thanks again

Yeah, that was a good call, sealing the waterjacket. Another of the many great engineering designs by Mercruiser. Not! Oh, and lets not forget about the paint flaking issue. I also like the fact that they offer a "FIX", but not a recall, and charge the customer $100. more. Awesome!

Ya the grooves were in the aft section of the pump. The kit I was talking about is for our brass pumps. My buddy had the same problem with his brass pump so I rebuilt it for him. They also have a complete rebuild kit for a little more money.
