On my 95 230 there is an in-line fuse (red wire) right next to the battery... it then connects directly to the pos side of the battery along with the heavier starting cable and runs directly to the bilge pump. This is so the automatic float switch will come on even if the switch is off...

Agree with beachcombersc re: don't paint it! It becomes a yearly ritual and only applies to salt water for barnacles and other nasties. Ours is now on a lift and STILL needs to be re-painted, just to keep it looking ... OK. Almost all of our neighbors (salt) are not painted, are on lifts and...
