update - Pulled the motor out as I assumed it was the oil pan. Plus the dripless shaft seal on the side was leaking as well. Figured might as well as take care of two problems.
Well the pan was fine as well as the dip stick and banjo connector. The culprit... the last owner must have...
Update on this. After the full tune-up, did a compression test... Well, 60 PSI on on cyc meant a head job. Since we had the motor apart, I sent all 16 injectors (both engines) out to be cleaned. I'm a happy boater again.
I've had hulu for just about a year. I switched from Xfinity. Once I got use to the way you search for the channel vs typing in the channel number it's been much better. especially for the price.
I'm trying to expand my knowledge on fuel injectors. I have a 350 MPI (2000) that after a long run (2.5 hours) seems to be off a bit at an idle.
So far we have changed plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and fuel filters. I'm starting to wonder if maybe an injector(s) is dirty/clogged.
The boat...
Changing out the old square fixtures in the bilge as i'm in there working on winter projects. What have you all used as replacement fixtures? I'm thinking 2 light bars 8-12"
Boat is a 97 300DA with Inboards. Access isn't an issue.
The added HP is nice. I don't have to use the tabs at all. My old boat (94 300 with 350/260 alpha 1's) was ass heavy. I have to run her at 3600 to stay on plane even with the tabs. I love the MPI and and HP. My sweet spot seams to be 3100 at 23.5-24 knots (27/28 mph).
I'm not sure if the...
Yes 300 HP MPI. They were replaced in 2000 (previous owners) due to water ingestion. Merc actually warranty'd them, and change the exhaust from the side of the boat to underneath.
Def take a look at the shaft seal. That maybe the culprit.
Nice Job!
I'm actually pulling my starboard motor in a week. I was on my way back from Block to New haven at the end of July when I noticed the oil pressure dropping. Long story short either the pan has a hole or the dipstick tube loosened up. Luckily the motor had to come out to do the...
I have a leak on my motor and had the same thing happen. One of the dipsticks tubes is lose because the previous owners mechanic did not attach the bracket to the manifold. With that said, im not sure if it's the pan (rot) or the dipstick tube. I'm actually pulling the motor in a week or so...
I will update this weekend when i can dive into it.
I did follow the dipstick tube to the pan/block. There wasn't much oil there on the pan. Not ruling that out but I don't think that's the culprit.
If I had to take a gamble, its the oil pan. The camera should tell.
side note, the...
Plan is to finish clean up the bilge, put down the pigs (white oil blanket) refill engine with oil. A friend has a GoPro that you can watch live via Bluetooth. He wants to put under the engine and then fire it up to see if we can see leak.
