Questions for my fellow Potomac boaters.

I'm at Washington Marina, and I've been very happy there. They do annual agreements, but (a) they pro-rate, and (b) they'll work with you on payment schedules. Also, our prices didn't increase much even with the increased demand when GP closed for,the renovations (this increasing demand)...

moved from fresh water to salt/brackish water

Definitely switch the anodes! Just learned this lesson the almost-hard way. The anodes were gone and erosion had started on the prop. Fortunately, we caught it early enough that the new anodes will help me avoid a major expense (for now).

    how to operate battery switches?

Not sure if you have the same setup I do (94 Sundancer 290 with two batteries), but here's how someone explained using the battery switch to me: When docked on shore power, turn the switch to Off, as you don't need the batteries and they'll charge even when "Off." Turn the switch to either 1...

Steering- boat always wants to go right!

Hi all. I have a '94 Sundancer 290, and am having an ongoing steering problem. The steering wheel seems to "default" to hard right, meaning that if I put the wheel in what should be the neutral position, the boat turns right, pretty drastically. Turning the boat left, or even keeping it...

    new to 290 sundancer

I have '94 290, and she's held up remarkably well. If you track me through the forums, you'll see that I've had some issues, but those are generally ignorant owner issues, not boat issues. She cold starts easy, including the first time after spring commissioning, and seems to be idiot proof...

Water coming up through head drain?

Thanks! Have been out of town but plan to spend the weekend trying to figure this out. I actually did know where the sump pump is, it turns out, just forgot that's what it was called. I've had trouble with it in the past, and it was supposed to have been replaced two years ago, so it's pretty...

Water in Hull. Wet carpets. Frustrated boaters.

I'm having the same problem, and it's been intermittent for two seasons now. Water occasionally soaks the carpet, seemingly starting near the galley/ head but with no clear source of leak. It's maddening. Yesterday I noticed that there seems to be water backed up in the drain in the head and...

Water coming up through head drain?

I'm not sure I understand where the shower sump is-- mid-cabin, I have the table and two benches, and have bunks forward and aft. Thnaks!

Water coming up through head drain?

I had my 94 Sundancer 290 winterized and spring commissioned by the marina, and things are mostly well. I have some questions about/ issues with power steering and trim tabs, but I'll save those for another day. My biggest issue right now is water that I'm pretty sure is coming up through the...

How Not To Winterize Your Boat!!

It is crazy that some boats get covered like this, while others seemingly very nearby are fine. I also don't have any idea how that happens!

Didn't winterize - how to get ready for spring?

Hi all. This year, I got a full winterization done, and did it early! Lesson learned from last year, and I'm so glad that nothing worse happened. Also, I learned that the boat has a bilge heater, and so I feel especially stupid. This year has been colder than last, or at least it's been...

    290 sundancers 1994-midyear 97 "We need a thread"

Welcome, Travis! I've been looking for a tv solution as well but haven't decided yet. I currently have a (very old) tv/vcr combo mounted on a shelf that the former owner installed in the front berth, but it no longer works and I want to replace it. I did some searching around, and decided...

Gear lube in power trim reservoir?

Thanks, Lazy. And no worries - I don't think you're being rude or anything, I know it's a weird question. I am 99% sure that I am referring to the right reservoirs but I admit being confused about the whole outdrive situation (trying to learn, but haven't figured this whole engine out yet). I...

Gear lube in power trim reservoir?

Correct - I know for sure that I have the right fluid in the trim tabs reservoir, but I think I have gear lube (Quicksilver) in the power trim reservoir - it's starboard at the rear-most part of the engine room (although, it's less of a "room" and more of a hideaway, I guess!), near where my...

Gear lube in power trim reservoir?

Well, sure - I get that. The problem is - what if I have the wrong fluids in some of these? Is it catastrophic, like the boat will explode or the engine will lock up? And if it catastrophic, does that mean I can't run the boat until I drain the fluids and re-fill with the proper fluid?
