Ken, How are you coming on this? Have you broken down the engines yet? Just wondering as we haven't heard from you. Jack

Ken, Do you have any speculation as to what caused the failure? Did the aftercooler leak? The O ring area you mentioned is what I was talking about when it comes to failures. I was told Cat used some kind of crummy material for the fittings at the front of the cooler and they just disentegrated...

Have you thought about pulling the rod and main caps (obviously one by one ) to see if in fact there is damage. The reason I ask is I believe you can do the piston and liners while the engine is still in the boat. That would be only if all looked good on the bearings. I realize this would be a...

I am sick for you that this happened. Sounds like you are capable of doing most of the work yourself which hopefully will soften the financial blow. The aftercooler is often blamed for failure of 3196's but is not always the problem. When you pressure test the cooler I would really be...

Greg, You gotta wash it out. Just a good maintenance procedure. I have always washed mine out. I assume my problem arose from the previous owner. Oh well all fixed now. Jack

No way to have rebuilt it. It was corrosion that got it. It was eaten up to bad. An obvious reason to ALWAYS wash out your rode locker after every use. Jack

Head ripped off by Imtra and Lofrans

Jim, I appreciate the post. My problems ARE worked out. Just to the tune of 1400.00 bucks lighter on my side. My complaint is I paid that much for a motor. That motor at best should have been 500.00. And that's with a decent markup. Once again because it's on a boat let's gouge em. I do under...

Head ripped off by Imtra and Lofrans

Windlass motor decides to commit suicide this weekend. Not generally a big problem as I troubleshot it and found the motor was bad. Previous posts send us to Imtra which I went. Original posters said very nice people to work with. I now understand why they are so nice as they are charging me $...
