I never taken an infared reading but according to the water temp gauges on my 454's the port side runs 175 and the starbord runs 160. SeaRay put me in touch with a guy named Rocky at Mercrusier and he said 170 to 180 is fine for the big blocks. That was 10 years ago and I have had no issues.
Thanks for the response Ken. I'm having my new tank made up in stainless so I wonder about the dissimilar metal thing but I'm sure my fabricator friend will know.
We have used ours several times for overnight guests and it has held up fine. However, I don't think I would recommend it for any thing other than sleeping, if you know what I mean.
I know a a few of you have been through the chore of replacing your water tank. I am grateful for the pictures and advice you have provided sharing your problems and solutions. You have made the job of removing the tank from my 390 much easier but I have yet another question. Am I right in...
Hi Ken,
Like many others I followed Pietro's great thread on restoring his 390. I seem to remember during the water tank discussion you mentioned that you planned to change out the tank on your 390. This week I started to do the same with my own 1988 390 and I have a question. I'm thinking there...
Pietro,
I just spent the last hour or so "catching up" on your thread after being AWOL the last few months. Your 390 is absolutely beautiful! It is great to see it in the water and to know how pleased and proud you must be. I can't begin to tell you how valuable your posts, pictures and patient...
I had a 300 before I bought my 390. It was a sweet ride! Beamy enough to give a stable ride but plenty fast if you wanted to be somewhere in a hurry. Mine had the twin 350 mercs at 260hp each and alpha one drives. I highly recommend stainless props with this setup. I could cruise at 30mph at...
Thanks Matt. No Riverbend for us this year. We used to go every year but we are getting older, the crowds are getting bigger, and after a full day of boating and beverages some of the "captains" down there can make things a little dicey!
Hi Chuck. Thanks for the signature advice. I hope to get a picture up soon. Like your Hiwassee picture. That's one of those trips you have to take but probably won't do twice!
Don't have an answer for you on the adhesive doc but you made a good choice on swapping the mattress. We had a local mattress guy cut the temper pedic foam to fit our 1988 390EC. They also covered it with a nice material. Best money we ever spent. Sleeps better than our bed at home.
I...
Hi Everyone!
I have been a boater for 35+ years mostly on the Tennessee River between Chattanooga and Knoxville. Previous boats started with a 16 ft Cobia, Then I moved into Sea Rays with a 22 cuddy, then a 1989 260da, a 1989 300da and now my 1988 390 express. All are great boats.
It's great...
