So I changed the solenoids and took the boat to the lake this weekend. The drive will go up and down reliably now so it appears the solenoids were the problem.
But... The trim down works fine but the trim up doesn't move the drive. To move the drive up I have to click to the trailering...
Sorry I didn't mention that but both directions are involved. When it won't work, both directions don't work. When it does work, then both directions work.

After putting the boat in the lake for the weekend we started having problems with the trim. Sometimes it would work but most of the time not. With the engine not running and pushing the switch I would hear clicks from the solenoid, sometimes a hum from the pump motor if I was down by it...
I'm not too worried about dropping the phone in the water while in the boat. I just put it in the drivers cup holder and I can easily see it. I turn off Bluetooth, wifi, cell to save battery (no cell service anyway at the lake) and just leave it on while out in the boat. My worry is when I'm...
I have a 2005 185 Sport with the 4.3 V6. I cannot get the speedometer to read correctly. The pickup is clear, I can blow air from both ends easily. I replaced the connector where it attaches to the lower unit. I have replaced the pitot tube from the transom to the gauge. I can't really tell how...
I have the 2005 version of that boat and motor that I bought used. It came with a 17p 3 blade Vengeance prop. I go to lakes near sea level and at 5000+ ft. That prop did OK at altitude but at lower altitude it just wasn't enough, good hole shot though. I have since changed to a 19p High Five...
Aftermarket biminis for use with towers will sometimes have a telescoping front rod to get around this issue and are also attached to the tower. They are mounted higher and then the front telescopes out and locks to tighten the top. I just made use of the stock bimini for now. If I whack my head...
If the bimini is left much higher, the bimini will not clear the bottom of the tower when putting it up. You could try to open it without it connected to the boat and push it in place but I wanted to be able to just bring it up like it is supposed to. I still have to flex it sideways to clear...
I usually just leave it down on the pad at home but I was working on the bimini then. I only put up the tower when towing (and on the water of course!)
Chris
The tower does fold and lays on the motor cover. If I member correctly, I cut about 8-10 inches off each leg of the Bimini top and riveted the connectors back in place. The front part has to be flexed a bit to get it under the tower but once through it is quite straight and sturdy.
I love the MT1 on my 2005 185 Sport. I lowered the stock bimini to fit under the tower. I've banged my head pretty hard bending under it if I'm not careful but it's OK otherwise.

My 2005 185 did a similar thing last year. We were on the lake when it died and would not restart. It would crank fine. Make sure you check for a blown fuse (mine was under the dash). We replaced the blown fuse and it immediately blew again when we tried to restart. But the engine would still...
I moved the switch a few times and the tach worked fine yesterday.
I think I may have narrowed down the problems with the speedometer. I think it is the connector on the drive where the tube starts. I took it off again and seated it down again. It worked much better for about 3-4 minutes but...
I've been having problems with my speedometer and tach this season in my 2005 185 with 4.3 engine. The speedometer reads 12-15 mph slow and frequently doesn't even start to register until at 18-20 mph. I've blown out the tube from the gauge end and there does not appear to be any obstruction...
