That should read 810 cca (cold cranking amps)

Well, time to replace my batteries. I’m looking for opinions on optimal replacements. It appears the previous owner installed dual purpose group 27 batteries for all three. The label indicate 810 CAD but my mechanic recommends 1000 cca as he believes the smart craft likes those best. I can’t...

Absolutely! I couldn’t be happier with the sound. I am thinking of making a canvas cover for it though b/c I’m not sure how it will handle the elements in the long term. I just replaced my cockpit cover so I now have plenty of material to make custom covers for any topside equipment I want to...

Here is a screen shot of horn on Amazon.

No relay needed. I’ll need to dig into my records to find the model and purchasing info.

So, this is what I did (see pic). I hated the wimpy sound of the standard horn so I purchased an electric horn that sounds like an air horn. I mounted it to my anchor line locker hatch which enabled me to easily access the wiring to the standard horn.

Two additional data points: 1. the Mercruiser manual lists the max rpm at 4400-4800. 2. My pressure and temp readings for both engines remain perfect at the higher rpm (~50psi and ~150°).

I have an RPM question/request for opinion. Does anyone have an opinion or data based position on maximum sustained operating RPM? I was able to maintain about 25 knots while operating at about 3500 RPM. With the unusually warm weather this summer, everyone has been having issues with growth on...

That is the emergency start switch. It shorts the two batteries so you (theoretically) should be able to start either either engine if one of your batteries is dead. Of course the remaining battery will need to have adequate cranking voltage available. There is a good thread on this topic on the...

I routed the cable from the stereo, behind (outboard of) the midship berth closet, drilled a hole through to the port forward corner of the engine compartment, across the forward engine compartment bulkhead, came aft a little and followed the cockpit cooler drain line up and into the sink/cooler...

Here's what I did. It's way easier than trying to run the cable all the way to the dash, with the added benefit that the Admiral can easily change tunes and not have to invade the sanctity of the helm. And it's very easy for the Captain to reach back and mute/lower the volume when safety dictates

Sorry, just saw this. I ran the 8 wire from the stereo located in the port cabinet just aft of the dinette, behind the facia inside the mirrored cabinet in the midship berth, drilled a hole next to the existing cable bundle through to the engine room, ran the cable along the forward engine room...

I have a boat performance question. It seems my 280DA does not much fancy speeds above 8 knots and below 20 knots. I end up with an excessive bow up trim that I can’t resolve with either trim tabs or trimming the out drives all the way down. Is there something simple that I’m missing? Moving my...

You are correct shipmate. However, I’m too cheap to buy a new stereo (however not too cheap to buy the remote and new cable, go figure.)
