we have a '78 220 overnighter with the same "crappie" looking panels - on the v-berth bifold doors, on the sides of the helm, and a few other places. This stuff really looks dull, plain, blah and un-attractive. I am toying with the idea of painting these panels with a melamine paint (white)...

see if there is a detailing shop in your area that does boats. The wife's shop is advertising boat detailing and she is looking forward to the challenges of doing a job a lot of boat owners balk at.
