Yep just went right over top of the existing. For the edges used a hair dryer to heat up and stretch around like a wrap. It is supposed to have an 8 year lifespan in the sun and unlimited indoors, so we'll see about how it holds up. It will work fine as long as I own the boat though i'm sure!

I did a Re cover using wood grain vinyl! Overall it was my time and $15 cost for the vinyl. Assuming you have the dash template like i did you just make the vinyl template and fit around existing. Found the cover on EBay and touts it should look great for 8 years in sunlight and unlimited...
