I was looking into having a custom made sun shade extension done to cover the aft seating since the sun shade that extends from my radar arch aft, offers little to no shade for this area. I contacted a company here in North Vancouver, and they quoted me $3800CAD ...so roughly $3000USD. This seems HIGH, correct? They would have to fabricate the frame, but STILL. Just to be clear, here's what I'm asking:

This is my current setup with the slant back installed:

And what I would like to add

I guess I could always buy a beach umbrella. Ugh

I have been working on a plan for a 100% removable rear cover. The cover would zip the the factory canvas and attach to removable poles in the rear. There was a discussion of something similar a while ago. @saopm posted a picture but I know longer see it in the post. It would require two rod holders and extendable poles. I was planning on using a tensioning system to attach the cover via small pulleys and v-cleats.

This is one of the "products" that we have been tossing around developing.

Something like this? This utilizes the fishing rod holders and is 'stretchy.'

Similar. The one I have been toying around with in planning would be Sunbrella Canvas - anything "stretchy" in the sun I feel will eventually break down. The rear corners would have stainless D-Loops sewn in that we would attach via a cord with a snap to and then the cord (like paracord) would run through a pulley at the top of the pole. You would pull down and lock when tensioned into a v-cleat mounted on the pole. The canvas would zip into the factory zipper mount on the sun shade attached to the arch.

That sounds perfect. Got any prototypes you need ‘tested’? Ha

I’d buy that if you could get it here by July 8th when we head out to Desolation Sound for two weeks. Might just have to bite the bullet on this ridiculous cost quoted to me. We need shade.

I would not. Here is an idea I have seen before. If you use the white Table in the cockpit drill a hole in the center by the pole and insert a fold down umbrella.

We are in the process of having a sunshade made out of Sunbrella Contour Fabric. https://www.sunbrella.com/en-us/textiles/shade/collections/sunbrella-contour
Having our marina make it for around $1300.00, it will zip to the current zippers already on the back of the hard top, they installed two rod holders where extendable poles will attach to the back corners of the sunshade. will post pictures if it ever gets done, been waiting 5 months!

I had one made for my 340da. I got the poles from canvas designers in FL and then had the shade itself made locally. The poles were about $1500. I paid more because mine are collapsable, I needed that to store them under the stern seat easily. The shade itself cost me about $500 to have made. It goes up quick and I went with regular sunbrella so that I can use it as a rain cover as well. I bought very heavy duty off shore style rod holders and put large backing plates on them so it doesn’t crack the gunnel. It is secure but the only downfall is I don’t feel comfortable running too fast with it.

Here is the pic of mine I posted a while back. If you are looking for quick shade, then this is the way to go. Very easy to put up and take down.

Here is what I do. I have a beige triangle sun sail shade (bought from Home Depot online.). Wide side draped over the rear Bimini and tied to hand holds on the side window frame. The point extends back and I simply use my extendible boat hook as a temp pole. Sits on top of the transom with a single rope tiring it down to a swim platform grab bar. Looks decent and gives good shade. You could buy a square one and use two boat hooks in rod holders if you have them. I will try to find a picture of mine set up. It's not as "ghetto" as it sounds.

That actually looks really good Creekwood. I was looking at those at homedepot.ca as well as Wayfair. Problem is I have a black canvas and (wanting them to match) options in black seem slim to none. I suppose white would work too, but it would probably get dirty really fast.
