Select EX Thread

I have a 270 and I have not installed speakers anywhere, I just wanted to let people know that the thread is still being read.
I wouldn't think you would have an issue putting speakers there. Just the inherent fear of cutting a big ass hole in the boat. other than that....
do you have the "Sports Arch" on your boat? Most people put speakers there, that face aft. I do not have the arch, but my stereo is plenty loud without the aft speakers.

No sports arch or tower--that would be too easy! :) I'd like to put a switched set back there that I can turn on and off for when we sit in the cove and play/float behind the boat to make it easier to hear. We will see if I have the guts to cut the hole!

That "Cutting the Hole" thing would definitely hit my nerve center. However I was having no issues with that while I was considering adding a Windlass. I did talk myself out of it though. Too much money, too much wire. I wonder if you could put some Bazooka style speakers on some sort of arm on either side so that you are looking at just the 3 mounting holes plus the wire. Those things are seriously loud and distortion free. I think it's worth looking into.
buuuuut....you know what they say... No Guts, No Glory..

Hello all just picked up 2011 270 with 12 hours on it figured I would ask anything to beware of with these ECT / DTS engines. Also, does anyone have a grill? I'm looking to try and mount one on the tower where I can swing it over the water when in use

Solid engine. Nicely powered
DTS is well proven. Great boat, had one for several years.

Welcome and congratulations! I love my 250 SLX! I'm also planning on setting up a grill. I'll probably install a "fish rod holder" in the gunnel behind the tower to use for a mount. I've been looking at the round Maxim grills. I don't have a lot of room and I think this type will work the best for me.

My rear-facing speakers are installed on the arch. The nice thing about that is that you can hear them from inside the boat as well as from behind it or in the water.

Any pictures?
Here are a couple. These speakers sound amazing!

The 250/270 SLX series is most excellent. I have the Magma Grill that came with my boat. It mounts to a hole in the side rail. I have no Arch (by choice) so I cannot speak to your idea of mounting it to the Arch. But I will say that I love my 270, i just don't get to use it as much as I would like.
I also Have the DTS and ECT. 8.2Mag. Never had a problem.
And pics. You gotta Add Pics. See how happy people look on the SLX?
These boats like to run. Run your boat!

Hi guys. I just got a 2006 270 slx with 496 mag. What octane gas do you guys use? Thanks!

I have the 8.2 MAG and according to Mercury and my owners Manual (Prophecy), it is designed to run on 87 Octane. My Marina carries 87 Octane 0% Ethanol. According to Merc, (the Prophecy) the 496 was also designed to run on 87. So run 87. If you can get 87 0% Ethanol, get that. You could run higher, and if I can get it, I do, just to clean up, and the computer SHOULD compensate, but I make no guarantees....Your Mileage may vary etc.... You are going to get LOTS of opinions on Octane, and whether or not you should run higher Octane than what is recommended, etc. and I have opinions, based on my own research and discussions with engine manufacturers and Chem guys, but I still get told different things.

H ere you go, unfortunately, it didn't like running well this weekend, well the water pressure sensor went bad on Sunday which ended the weekend as it the engine went into guardian mode I wasn't very happy that I couldn't continue because of a bad sensor while everything else was fine. Sometimes I wonder do we really need sensors to do everything.

Well that sucks, but there is the other side of that, when Guardian mode saves the motor and your wallet.
It's a trade off. We engineers have a tendency to Over Engineer things, then the bean counters come in and trim away. We end up with a compromise that isn't really what we intended.
Anyway;
Did you get it all squared away? Sensor changed out everything running great?

It's a beautiful boat, BTW. I may be a little biased.

I understand the concept and appreciate the system to a point. I wish there was manual override for these type sensors. If it happened when I was far from my dock that would have made a long commute back. My opinion you should always watch and triple check your gauges and not wait for an alarm. Anyways is what it is, I bought two sensors they should arrive today.

I totally get where you're at, Bobby. There should be a workaround. Gotta remember though everything is designed around the weakest link. Not everyone is as fully versed as the next guy. Maybe a well designed plug in that lets you override the sensor. Hmmm...a money maker or just a warranty voider....HA! Get those sensors on and lets us know how it goes. (I get why you bought two, by the way.)

New water pressure sensor in ,reading about 3.7 water pressure at idle on the hose. Seems to be fine now

Anybody have an issue with their 270slx on the helm side dash. The black plastic on top seems to be coming off. Seems like the glue is no longer holding. Should I reglue it or use Velcro or something like that?
