Anyone use Shurhold handles / brushes? Are they worth the cost?

My 10+ year old telescoping boat hook bit the dust - time for a new one. My hook rarely gets used as such - much more often it serves as a handle for a deck brush. It's a West Marine model with a threaded tip the hook for my brushes I have thought over the years that the Shurhold handles / brushes look pretty nice and now would be the time to get one.

My dilemma is that if I went with a Shurhold handle I would need to buy a hook attachment and replace all my brushes as they are not compatible. If I went with a WM hook or a Starbright handle, my existing brushes would fit either. Plus, they float where the Shurhold handles sink unless you buy a separate float kit.

I like mine... got a couple of different brushes and the hook.

I didn't have any existing pieces so that was not an issue for me.

I use regular brushes with cheap screw in handles. If I spent the money on the Shurhold it would be almost guaranteed to go overboard.

That's kind of my feeling. Need something that floats. And I only want 1 pole on the boat so it has to do double duty as a boat hook and brush handle.

I have a shed at my dock property and I keep my wash brushes, cheap wood poles from Home Depot, Boat Soap, and wash bucket in there.
Boat usually gets a full bath when I get back to my dock, if I’m in a hurry it gets a good rinse to get the salt spray off and then a full bath the next day.
If I need to clean anything away from my dock it gets done by way of a spray bottle cleaner and rag.
If I’m at a transient dock I step it up to include a good rinse with a hose to get the salt off.

I dropped my trusty shurhold in the that two weeks ago, and ordered a replacement kit through defender. (Although no physical tears were shed, my mind was crying as I helplessly watched disappear into the murky depths of the harbor to join all the other stuff i’ve Lost. At least my cockpit table stand won’t be as lonely now.)

Anyway, I also bought a flotation kit for it, and I think I saw an adapter is now available for the spin on type attachments.

They know make a "life jacket" for them :) - Its a two part system with an inner flotation and an outer flotation/protection sleeve.

Yes and I think they are fantastic. I know have three poles (two fix and one extender), an extention pole, multiple brushes, squeegee, water wand holder and a crab net. I use these both on my boats and my cars.

I can also attest to their customer service. I had a defective brush that lost most of its bristles after several years and their customer service happily replaced it.

a little off topic but related....the pedestal for my Magma grill mount on the swim platform decided to see if it could swim a couple years ago....as you can guess that was not a good idea....it sank to the bottom of the lake like a brick...

a replacement pedestal was $60.......

I was determined not to let this pedestal suffer the same fate as the first one so I cut up an old pool noodle and stuffed the pieces inside the new pedestal....it now floats well just in case it also decides to test its ability to swim....

I wonder if you can use some sections of a pool noodle wrapped around a brush handle to keep it afloat?

interesting product....but it looks like you put the sleeve around the pole while it is fully collapsed....if the pole is fully or partially extended when it is dropped into the water I wonder if the sleeve would still be successful in preventing the pole form sinking....

There is also in insert that comes with it for inside the tube.
If it floats collapsed, why would it not float extended? Might change its attitude in the water but would still float.

you are probably right....it may still float while extended but it may be oriented straight up and down with the brush head down.....

Don’t feel bad, I donated a 5 month old iPad to the canal last year. That hurt!

Oof. That's the worst. The first day I had my boat I was kneeling on the deck attaching a mooring line to the bow cleat. My flip phone launched itself out its belt clip straight into the harbor. Those were the days of phone contracts and I had a year left before I could "upgrade" so I had to go on ebay for a decently priced replacement. Not as bad as loosing an iPad though.

I'm leaning toward getting the shurhold handle / hook / brush combo with the float kit. Now I just need to decide about the 6 foot or 9 foot extension pole. The 6 foot seems just a little short, but the 9 foot seems a little long when not extended.
