Official 290 Sundancer Thread

Any suggestions on where to post my 290 for sale? Thinking of selling, but have really enjoyed this boat. Appreciate any ideas!

WTB either the 280 or 290 with twins. Opinions?

Do you have the listing?

Well, if anyone is still out there on this thread - I am not heading to Korea anymore, so keeping the boat for the time being.

I did some Kohler 5E generator maintenance today. Change the oil, the fuel filter, anode and impeller. If any of you have a 2006 model with the same setup as me, its almost impossible to get to the impeller. I saw someone else posted the same thing on here, but no follow up on a solution. I ended up having to loosen the bolts as much as i could, move the plate in order to unbolt the entire pump so I could get to the impeller (gen is right next to large water tank).

I have no idea what I am looking at, but the housing seemed to be wearing oddly, unless this is how it is supposed to look. Can any of you verify it shouldn't be a perfect circle inside?

I went to start it to check on all my work, and it started for approximately ten seconds, before revving up, and then dying. It isnt starting again, just cranking but not turning over and starting. Here are two pics of inside, and how the new impeller looked once it went in.

The housing looks normal. That’s how it gets it’s suction.

In all probability your no start is due to changing the fuel filter. It revved as it ran out of fuel due to changing it. When I changed mine it took a lot of cranks to get it primed again and running. More than 10.

Thanks Cincy - you always help me out!

Makes me feel better about the situation...right when I finished a storm hit us, so I was rushed to wrap everything up. Will give it some more tries this week and hopefully there’s no problems. Thanks again!

Any ideas on where to purchase a replacement shower head assembly for the rear shower?

My pleasure! I was worried about the no start too after changing the fuel filter. It took a while but did finally run again.

Hi all I’m new to the thread just completed my purchase of a 1994 Sea Ray 290 Sundancer, just wanted to say that there is some very useful information on here. Thanks to all who contribute

Can anyone with an 06 290 w/Merc 5.0s let me know the size of your risers? I’m about to tackle this job and I currently have what appears to be a 3” and 1.7” spacer on top of each other on both engines. Merc rep ran both engine SNs and said one called for 6” and the other called for 4.7” and the rep stayed as long as I have clearance to get the 6” risers....it’s going to be close.

Well i tried and tried to start it and it didn’t start. I thought it was because I messed with the electric fuel valve...and then today, it started up! Let it run for about ten mins, and sounded great. Got out on the water and once again it wouldn’t start. I shut the boat off, then it started but at some point shut down after I started the boat again. I couldn’t get it to start again after that. It doesn’t sound like it has the “umph” ithadpriorto me changing the impeller and fuel filter. I have no idea if it’s fuel or spark..... changed all fuses on the front, and checked circuit breakers but no dice.

Cane- have you solved this issue yet? i'm not really sure what could be causing it at this point. Plugs do need changed regularly from my experience. I would definitely do that. Any codes on the front display?
