Any upper Chesapeake boaters see this article?

UGH!!! I was down at Middle River this Saturday. All this crap is floating at the mouth of the river... What a mess. I hope it ends up on shore and gets further south soon. If not it will be a slow cruise back to my home slip this spring.

Anyone have an update? I'll be coming out of Middle River in April. Wondering how bad it is.

With the logging industry in BC what it is, debris is a way of life here. Tugs are constantly pulling and pushing massive log booms with literally thousands of huge logs (trees really) through our waters ...so they're bound to lose a few here and there. Not to mention what washes off the shore during the spring melt. One of the most dangerous obstacles is known as the dead head ...when you have a 50 ft x 3ft log that's gotten so water logged it floats vertical with just a small portion of it peering above the water line. They can be difficult to spot. Last summer a 40ft Formula hit one in Howe Sound (where we often boat) and it sunk the boat.

Here's the article about it: http://www.nsnews.com/news/seven-rescued-from-sinking-boat-1.20434851

I hit something like that with my 330DA last fall just leaving Baltimore Harbor while running on plane. I could barely see it floating just at the surface in my wake after I hit it. It seemed to be floating horizontally then, but I have no idea how it was positioned before impact. One prop reconditioned, one prop and shaft replaced, one transmission replaced, plus some other odds and ends, for close to $20K. Thanks to the folks at State Farm, who were total pros about it, and also the Marine Max service guys who worked directly with insurance company. Luckily no damage to the hull. I knew it was bad the moment it happened. But the boat was not taking on water, and I managed to get back in on one engine, at idle speed. I was hoping this problem was limited mostly to the harbor area, but now it sounds like that is not the case.

Summit North Marina for me. New to me 270 SunDeck gets delivered Monday and all it needs is a good detail job. Had the mechanicals and bottom painted by the transport company who also owns a marina in MD. Was a convenient stop from FL along the way to the new home on the C&D. Looking to splash 4/12 or 13.
