close quarter maneuvering, simple, Diesel (slight edge), HO, 370's in that order
425's and 370's have the same performance besides at WOT. That extra HP doesn't kick in until the top of the power curve, which this size boat rarely happens, at least for me. My buddy has same exact boat but with 370's and we cruise at same RPM's and get almost same burn rate. At top end I pull on him slightly but that's it.

You should look into Sea Wise. I installed on my 2005 390DA and it was the perfect solution. I had 90% use of the integrated swim platform on the vessel. My port side transom door opened inward, but I'm thinking your center outwardly opening door will still be a great match for the SeaWise system. Its functional and economical. The shop is based in BC but I know they ship all over. Installation doesn't take a rocket scientist either. Details and measurements of your dingy are key and of course, measure once, measure twice, have a sip of the beer, measure a third time and then drill.

Thanks for the reply and yes our center door opens outwardly. This causes quite a problem with outfitting the boat with a lift. We need to keep the swim platform clear for entering the boat and even putting lines on the cleats. We will take a look at Sea Wise, thanks!
 
Here is a picture. I can answer much related to the install and set up on my then 2005 390. But you can see the amount of swim platform space still available (probably 95%) with the dingy in its 'up' position. Getting the dingy on, off, or up is truly a 1 person effort and a breeze at that. Some dislike the look of this setup compared to a hydraulic platform or hurly type set up. To each their own. I opted for functionality, economics and least weight as possible. It sits very securely and no issue with wake wash since its always high enough off the water given the 390 platform height is higher than most to begin with.

I have a question regarding losing an engine. I have cummins Qsb 380 with ZF transmissions, dripless shaft logs witch are water cooled. If I were to lose an engine and require a tow is there some procedure that must be followed. I am planning an early trip from the south shrore of LI to the north shore with a boat that is new to me. I want to be prepared for the worst.
 
Nice setup Tom, what dingy did you have on it?
I had an Achilles (2013) 10.5' dingy with a 10HP merc on it. Really was a great set up. Self install was generally easy once confident about the drill locations. Minor mods to the dingy itself as there are (1) different motor mount and (2) lifting pads to be applied on the dingy. All of which come with the SeaWise kit.

If your set up was similar to mine, you will have a crossover line so that either engine is feeding the dripless (I assume SureSeal by Tides Marine) shaft seals of both. I have heard of people locking the shaft of the out-of-service engine to prevent wind-milling as its towed though but not sure that is mandatory as towing will be done at very low speeds.

Does anybody have the , canvas top 390 , or even the hardtop 390, I would like to know what the BTUs are for the cockpit air and what model or brand is it thanks ,

I need to add cockpit AC and I’m wondering if I should go up to the next hightest BTU model since this would be a new install ,Your comments would be appreciated

16000 BTU using 110v. You can't go much higher than that because the boat wasn't designed for ANY 240v runs and any larger sized BTUs are going to be 240. My .02. If you're on the fence, don't do it. You'll never really be happy with the performance of the unit except on the most mild of days. When you need it most, you'll be disappointed.

If you are further south, I'd rip it out completely and make better use of the precious space under the seat as 16000BTU is never going to win out over southern heat and humidity.

Thanks , how does that cool in the summer heat , during the day , and do you keep it I closed ?? Or open the back

Maybe I'll have a stern thruster installed , since I already have a bow thruster

Obviously your marine AC guy knows what he is talking about! :D:D

I should add one thing. We have used the unit as a heater and AC at night and performance is acceptable. On a few occasions our daughter has had a few friends camp-out up top overnight and the unit works fine to make things a bit more comfortable in that situation. (I made a filler cushion to replace the table and thereby converting the whole seating area into a sleeping area.)
 
I have a 2005 390 DA w/o cockpit a/c. Where do you locate the unit and the duct work? Sounds like a nice option along with the camper back canvas like Tman had.

Air was installed in our cockpit the year before we bought our boat. Make sure they run the condensation line to the shower sump, and not the bilge, like the guys did in our installation. My first project of 2018 will be to correct this problem. Nothing is more frustrating than the constant puddle between my blocks. Good Luck!!
