Holding Tank Float Stuck

I think I have the single screw in plug with the probes attached.

that is correct...it is like my tank......you will need to unscrew the cap and remove the cap with the rods/sensors still in place in the cap....my cap was screwed down tight so I used very large channel lock pliers i bought at Lowes...then you can clean the rods and sensors and reassemble.....be sure to unplug the electrical connector for the sensor wires and remember to plug the hole in top of the tank while working on the rods/sensors....

wow, looks like u do .... much easier . Just cut the zip ties and unscrew. I'm sorry I thought u had the same holding tank.

I've been through the same issue and nothing easy fixed it (cleaners, soaps, digestors etc). The only way I fixed it was the last/worst case scenario. Unscrew that lid and clean off the sensors manually. It's not a horrible job if get a real good pumpout right before and flush it really good. I wore a mask and gloves and had it done in under 20 minutes. Take a hose down with you and spray off the sensors when you have them lifted just about out of the tank. Then you'll likely have to use your hands or a brush to get the rest off if they are really clogged. Message me if you want more info.

This thread gave me the courage to clean my probes. Its really quite easy if you have the 3" screw cap. I believe mine has the same sensor that comes with the Sealand DTM0x series. Here's a link to its manual;

In any case. It was a matter of unplugging the harness, cutting the zip ties, unscrewing the sensor and holding your breath.

I let it soak in a bucket for about an hour with a healthy dose of Turtle Wax Max-Power Car wash solution. Then rinsed it off and "worked" the floats until I got smooth movement (sorry, unfortunate pun). Put it back together and I now have level lights on the panel!

If you have the vacu-flush system, be sure and turn off the head system breaker and then flush the toilet to release the vacuum before you unscrew the sensor.

Don't be skeered. Its just processed food.

Got mine pumped out and flushed good this morning. Unscrewed the lid with the sensors/probes and pulled it out after unplugging the harness and cutting the one zip tie. Not bad at all. I have been using the Norflex Digester and the smell was almost nonexistent. Cleaned the probes/floats with some Mary Kate Hull Cleaner and then some Spray Nine and a little brush. Took the floats off to complete the cleaning process and did not pay enough attention to which way they were turned. Put it back as I thought it should be and all works except “Empty.” Thanks bobeast for the manual. It will take 10 minutes to pull it back to tomorrow and I likely have the “empty” float on backwards.

I tackled this job today as my mid sensor was not working... Crud was an understatement.. I am not sure how the empty sensor was working..yuk!!. I have the three separate sensors they are all cleaned up and ready to go.... Now just have to pop the two toilets off to replace the toilet seats... I hope that's it for this nasty plumbing stuff...

I pulled mine back out today and in fact, the empty float was on upside down. Flipped it over, reinstalled, and still did not work. It was the only one that was working when I started taking it apart. Not sure what my next move is...

I feel your pain... I haven't re installed them as I brought them home to clean them..... But can't you move the floats before sticking them in that tank to see if the indicator is working... That is what I was planning on doing

Yes. I did that and knew my empty was not working. Then found the post with the manual and saw the float direction made a difference. I flipped it over and put it back in because regardless, I had to reinstall it. I can have it in or out in 10 mins now.

I believe it also said in that manual, that only one light could light at a time. I don't know if that applies to our specific indicator panels, but it begs the question. Is one of your other lights lit?

Since you guys are working on the top side of the holding tank, I have a question about the Saniguard Vent filter to control odors.

I want to replace/refill mine with fresh activated carbon. How do I release this latch on the hold-down strap? Pry it up? Push it down? I just don't want to break it!

Thanks,

when my tank is completely empty the only light that shows on the panel is 'Power'.....the 'Empty' light does not come on until there is a small amount of waste in the tank....

Ah that makes sense. I think the empty sensor sits 2" off the bottom.

I put my sensors back in the tank today...before I did that I had the pleasure of playing with them. The empty sensor on my display lights up when the float is at the bottom of its stroke along with the power light... When you move it about an inch up to the top of the stroke the empty light goes off.
