And the "firm" price on a 28 year old generator is?

I only put Honda generators on my boats. They fit perfectly on the swim platform...

Do you have an asking price in mind, or should we just set down a basket of money and have you take what you need?

I think it is fair to say that a 28 year old generator which was used less than 2 hours a year probably won't bring $3900. While some might pay for parts off of it....the generator itself is problematic which may be the reason that you are selling it "as-is.....no returns".

Why problematic? Because parts are scarce and the low hours cause more internal problems than generators with a 1000 hours. It would make far more sense for a potential buyer to acquire a newer Westerbeke, Onan, or Kohler.

Good luck with the sale.

I was quoted verbally 8,000 for a new 9 KW gas generator installed at the Seattle Boat show.
Perhaps parting it out might get you some customers. I will give you 200 for the exhaust manifold if it is in good condition. Payment after you ship and I inspect.
Anyone else need parts for there old generator?

I believe the seller is advertising the generator for sale, and not asking for opinions on how to sell it or what price he should ask.

This is why using classifieds on forums is useless as too many people can't get the basic concept and feel they have to insert their opinions when not requested.

Seriously, did someone urinate in your cereal this morning? Think about it, this is someone whose only posts are to sell used things on CSR for free. He doesn't even sponsor the site.

So? Are you the classifieds moderator?

Here’s a hint, let people advertise what they want for the price they want. Let the potential buyers decide the value to them.

Try it, it actually works.

I don't think remaining silent does work. Any community site is just that: a community site. You ask questions and people try to help with answers. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people on CSR. When someone uses a community site to sell something.....the members will comment and they should. Especially.... if they see something which they know would be an issue for a fellow member to acquire.

I will call your attention to a 2015 posting for the same generator by the same OP: http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php...generator-51-hours-5900-00.75206/#post-973158

In other words....this generator has been sitting for the past three years. The original poster wanted $5,900 for it lowering it to $4,000 in subsequent postings. This posting has it for $3,900 and it is the same generator. You can find it listed on ebay as well. You may think this is okay but I know these generators pretty well. Lack of use is far worse than using the heck out of it. An unsuspecting member (or ebay purchaser) may think they are getting a deal and will discover that the entire generator will need to be rebuilt (from piston rings to seals) because it has been sitting for at least three years.

Sure, I could say nothing and wait for whoever bought it to start a new thread about problems with a "new to them" 28 year generator but why would any one who supports and contributes to this community do that?

Play date.... It's "Piss in your cornflakes" ... What the heck is urinate in your cereal?... That's just wrong.

I would like to thank everyone for their post, I paid 50.00 last year to be on the forum and did not get much in return so I did not renew the service so do not assume I have not supported the forum. I am a 28 year construction equipment mechanic with 100% feedback on ebay for a reason. If you want to test the generator or want to see it run let me know.I will not give it away as I have ran the generator and know it is in top running condition.
