Official 390DA Thread

Been a few years since I owned the 2005DA, but I THINK I recall seeing the relay behind and to the left of the AC/DC panel in the cabin. That panel is hinged so its easy to unscrew the top and swing it down for a look. I know on my 2005 390DA, that is where the galvanic isolator was located but thought I saw the AC pump relay as well.

Has anyone made a cover for the sun pads on the forward deck?

Made one out of sunbrella a few years ago. Highly recommended upgrade. Keeps the cushions clean and prevents them from getting UV damage. Much easier to replace the cover than the cushions. I'll see if I can find a picture.

Hi All, I purchased a 2004 390 last fall. I’m looking to add a cockpit TV. Any thoughts on location and/or size. Looking to mount it on the port side radar arch above the sink or starboard side in the corner behind the helm seat. Thanks

Hello again people,
I'm refinishing the inside wooden steps on my 2005 390DA. Top three steps are easy to remove, can somebody tell me how to remove the bottom step? Looks like it should be storage underneath but doesn't budge. Can't see any fasteners either.

That is exactly how to access the 5-6 bolts that secure the bottom step. Check the side of the step down into the rear cabin. There should be a carpet covered door/flap/access hole. In any event, that's where you reach in with a ratchet and can loosen the bolts holding that bottom stair secure.

Thanks again Tom, it was 17 degrees when I was down there and I didn't see any kind of opening, but I should find it now. If there's no door I'll be sure to add one.

Thanks

It may or may not already be there. Truth be told, I discovered mine accidentally. There was a carpet thread sticking out, I tugged on it and what do you know...a little 6” x 6” flap appeared and I realized that is how to access that step and I believe the lightbulb as well.

And I replaced my stock refrigerator with a new Isotherm stainless steel one and the only way to get the old one out and new one in....is to remove that bottom stair first.

Hi I'm moving up from a 05 340 DA , WHAT A GREAT BOAT . Fenomimal
In every aspect of operation, never used the tabs to get on plane.wanting to move to a 390/400 DA
I'm now looking/ interested in a 04 and up 390/40 DA , GAS !!
Question, 8.1L 370 hp. VS. 8.1 L HO 420 hp

How does the boat run/handle Mostly planing ? Speed top end doesn't matter

I know diesels have more torque, but the maintenance and fuel saving does not apply to me, any thoughts/experiences real life , would be helpful
My gut say go with the 420 hp only ,( the more hp the better ) but there Seems to be more of 370 hp boats out there then the 420 hp boats
Thanks Jim

Jim- We are quite satisfied with our 370 gassers. We have been out several times on a diesel 40. There was a difference. Did I like it yes. Now, a dock neighbor has the 420 and we typically run same RPMs. There may be a variance in hole shot on plane but, nothing we have compared as fiends. Maybe some one with 420's can speak more in favor.

From someone who tested ALL 3 when purchasing mine just 2 years ago..
The Diesel and HO.. are nearly identical on on fuel burn, with the diesel edging out slightly on distance about 30 miles per tank..
the HO's and diesels will cruise comfortably from 18-25knots depending how much fuel you want, they will also hold the boat on plane at 13-15 mph with full tabs..

the 370hp are too under powered for the "04-05" 390 in my opinion, and struggle to keep the boat on plane while burning more fuel to do the same things 20-22 gallons per engine at 19-20 mph vs 20-22 gallons per engine at 26mph with diesel burning 17-19 gallons at same speed..

close quarter maneuvering, simple, Diesel (slight edge), HO, 370's in that order

top end.. i can only tell you mine because i didnt run the others WOT for more than a minute.. where mine i have run it there several times, depending on wind, load current, she tops out between 37-41 mph..

you are correct there are a ton more 370hp boats out there.. and the 370 pushes the boat fine on calm clear water i found it to be very lazy needing tabs to get up on plane with a moderate load..
start throwing some rough stuff in there (+5'ers) you will be glad you got the HO's even happier if you got the diesel..

the search is a tough one, i was VERY lucky to find mine when i did, for what i use it for the fuel burn is negligible when you have the added cost of purchase and maintenance, for me the HO's are perfect for what i do

We have the Dinghy Davit Blues
We are looking for dinghy lift solutions for our 2010 390 Sundancer with a center transom door. We really want to go on our big trip to the Canadian North Channel but we are concerned with fitting the boat with a dinghy and lift. Has anyone out there found the right solution so you can still use the transom door when the dinghy is on the swim platform lift? Not getting much response from any suppliers in the area. We really don't want to put a swim platform extension on the boat. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

She Captain, I have a similar boat and due to the centre transom door opening outwards limits your options and I don't think the above Hurley recommendation would work.

I currently pull my inflatable up out of the water and over the bow rail and tie it down to the sunpad rails and stow the outboard in the port transom locker. I would probably consider the weaver snap davits and stand it up across the back of the boat but this will still require the removal of the outboard. I only carry the inflatable on the boat for our annual summer holidays and the inflatable (Achilles Lex 96) and o/b (Yamaha 2st 8hp) are lightish so not a big deal.

Thanks Juggernaut,
It certainly sounds like an option if we can't find a lift solution. I am trying to make it easy for the Cabin Boy since we are not as young as we use to be.

Hurley H3 is hands down the best solution I have found
Phasma,
Thank you for your response, we have heard about the Hurley H3. It sounds like we would need the extension package so it would cantilever over the edge of the swim platform for us to be able to use the middle transom door. I wonder if anyone out there has this application?

I boat in the ocean so it's cross your fingers when trying to line up the outboard on a moving inflatable.....I haven't dropped it in the drink yet! The other benefit of the snap davits is that it holds the inflatable when placing the outboard.

She Captain -

You should look into Sea Wise. I installed on my 2005 390DA and it was the perfect solution. I had 90% use of the integrated swim platform on the vessel. My port side transom door opened inward, but I'm thinking your center outwardly opening door will still be a great match for the SeaWise system. Its functional and economical. The shop is based in BC but I know they ship all over. Installation doesn't take a rocket scientist either. Details and measurements of your dingy are key and of course, measure once, measure twice, have a sip of the beer, measure a third time and then drill.
