Looking for some input on Faux Teak products. I am looking at something to place on the swim platform of my 4oo DA. Looking to set off the back end as well as giving some traction to the area. I have looked at Flexiteek and Plasteak. Not sure how they hold up and don't want to put something on that I will regret. Does anyone have any opinions and/or suggestions? Thanks

I did my boat from helm to platform in SeaDek. I love and have never looked back. It is comfortable to walk on and lay on.

I've been kicking this around for 2 seasons now without pulling the trigger. I'll give you my observations after a few years of looking:

Plasdeck (plasteak) is the cheapest of the hard products, but also least realistic, most slick, and the hottest if you get a true teak color. Their CoolTeak options are cooler, but also a lot lighter in color. Price is going to be roughly 70% of FlexiTeak (you might find different pricing depending on your location).

FlexiTeak is the most realistic and most natural "feeling" to bare feet. But it's also the most expensive. The new 2G is noticeably cooler, but still gets fairly hot in the sun.

Both of those will pick up stain and need to be pressure washed or sanded to remove heavy stains.

SeaDeck is a soft spongy material, and has to be made in smaller panels so you get a lot is seems. It's also very 3-dimensional: some people love it some people hate it. And it will definitely need to be replaced after 5-7yrs. Also picks up stains, but it's easier to wash off.

I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger because they all have disadvantages that prevent me from justifying the cost. But I keep considering it!

I disagree. There are zero signs of wear in the high traffic areas on my boat after our first year. Then again, we don't wear shoes in our boat but I doubt any of you do either. I am very impressed with the abuse it will take. All are Goode choices.

I have flexiteek and love it. Looks great but does get hot, so you have to wear shoes or sandals no big deal to us

You sound a little like the predicament that prompted me to post this. I am really split between the optimal product as well. Sounds like you are leaning towards Flexiteak if anything at this point (great features if you can deal with the heat). My fear is making an application with the less than ideal product that I am then "stuck" with. Thanks

I think we're into our third season of SeaDek and it looks brand new. We are in a covered slip so that may or may not make a difference.

Very late to this thread but just installed AquaTrac through TT Custom Marine and love it. Pics attached. It's the "squishy" type because we needed to have traction on the stairs to the bridge.

Hi @copb8tx if its not a secret how much did it cost you

I seem to recall it was around $3,500, maybe $3,700 installed. We had several boats done at the same time and a guy flew out from Florida to Texas to first do the measurements and then back to do the installs.

I just signed a contract with a local installer for $6,400 to have PlasDeck installed in the cockpit and swim platform. When complete will post pictures of the results.
