We finally managed to string a couple of sunny days together this past weekend, and so my dad and I (who is up visiting from the states) took Paris out for an overnight up the coast. It was in the high 30's, but wow was it beautiful ...water on the strait was like glass. Also managed to fly the drone a bit and got some decent 'publicity' shots. Ha! No fish, but a great time regardless. :)

Nice shots. The first drone pic is fantastic, was it a still or did you lift the frame from a video?

Great shots all. Thanks for taking us along for your voyage. Mind if I asked where you went, what ports and where did you overnight?

Thanks Ryan ...I did lift that from video, yes. You can see the h.264 compression artifacts if you look close. I'll post the video here once I put it all together.

Mike ..as always my pleasure. We went up Howe Sound over to Sunshine Coast and stayed the night in Gibsons. (about 1.5 hours cruising at 23kts from Vancouver) The last photo is a stop off in Horseshoe Bay on the way back ...and then the Vancouver skyline coming home yesterday. You get up this way much?

We get up there every couple of years, but not by boat. Last trip to Vanc was to see Andrea Bocelli in a concert.

On a related note, I have been planning a trip up your direction (and beyond) for a couple of years. We won't do it while my 102 year old MIL is still around. She's in great health and I love her and don't want anything to happen to her.

We don't want to be up somewhere around Chatterbox Falls or Prideaux Haven and have something happen to her and it take us a few days to get home.

So I'm content for now with the trip planning, rough itinerary, etc. I figure it will be about a 4 month trip with Blind Channel being about as far north as we go. Pretty country you guys have up there and I'm anxious to spend a summer in your backyard.

Here's a little snippet from some of the drone video we shot . Camera work isn't all that great. I need more practice.

Love those pictures and videos. Great job. Looks like a "cold" but great trip.

Thank you for posting, always a bright spot in the day when I log in and see boating pictures.

Thanks,

Mike, you need to learn to keep your yap shut. :D I thought that last video was great. I wouldn't have known it was bad unless you'd told me.

Just kidding about keeping your yap shut. Not kidding about liking the video.

Thanks guys ...I guess it's not really bad per say ..just wish it was smoother in areas. After seeing some other pro level drone video on here, I was a little gun shy. ;)

Nice pictures, nice video, spending time with your Dad on your boat is even nicer.

Funny ,
first and last time I took the drone on the boat I had a bitch of a time landing it .. Wind / current not good ...
I wont be doing it again from the boat lol

My buddy is really into his drones. More so this last year since he retired and closed his auto repair business.
He launched it off my boat while we were on the hook In Zack’s Bay one day last summer and flew it east. The wind picked up suddenly and he was sweating making it back against the wind before it ran out of battery power.
He thought he may have to make an emergency landing in the weeds off the Ocean Parkway and we were going to have to do a search and rescue mission.
That would have been an expensive loss.

I had a little $1000 Mavic which I lost off the coast of Maui this past Christmas due to winds. It was it’s 3rd flight and a Christmas gift from The Admiral. That still hurts.

It was a good plan ( the weeds ) I thought about it .. we weren't anchored we were drifting ( between the meadowbrook and Wantagh ) ... and I really thought about putting it on the beach... IN ANY EVENT WE CAME IN HOT !!!! So u would be drone pilots... launching and retrieving from a boat needs practice... and pick ur landing boat... NOT A fly bridge with a small cockpits lol .. all the best guys ..

I don’t know that much about them but he seems to be able to make them (he’s got 2) come right back to his hands.
Then again, he gets a lot of practice.
He brings one of them wherever he goes.
It’s kind of a running joke among us that every time we spend time with him he brings along his drone videos and we have to endure watching them.
The thought of him losing one was scary for him but I think secretly the rest of us wouldn’t mind so much.

They way mine works is it marks the gps position from where it took off. AS its a boat drifting in current makes the home feature useless. Needless to say I wont be doing that again ! lol

which drone? DJI lets you change the homepoint to be the controller so it will track your movement

Great pics and thanks for sharing, can’t wait to see more. Keep looking at the DJI and haven’t pulled the trigger as to many toys not getting enough use as it is. I’ve spent the winter on Stock Island in KW right between two airports and knew I’d get in trouble in that area so another good radon to hold off !
