We have a '96 400DB, which has been great for our family.

Several years ago, we had hardwoods professionally installed throughout. I am now considering making upgrades to a couple of cabinets in the galley and salon as an accent to the darker hardwood we had installed. The cabinets are covered with a white marble formica. I would like to cover them with a 3M DiNoc vinyl, or a wood veneer. Has anyone done either of these with their cabinets, or something similar? Would love thoughts, comments, pros/cons from folks who have experience using either product for boat or other application?

Thanks!

David

Try restorationmarine.com. they have many of the original cherry veneers Searay used during the late 90s early 00s. Easy to work with and in most cases can be applied right over your white.

I have a 98 270 sundancer and just purchased 3m vinyl (light teak) wood to cover all doors, galley surfaces and head doors (medicine and toiletries). Why wouldn’t you try vinyl first as the $$$ is substantially lower than laminate. Too cold to attack this endeavor. Will post when and while working w pics. Good luck

Have not done it, but its on my list for my 97 330DA. I plan to do the floor in engineered hardwood, replace all the brass trim (really just some T-molding and the latch covers) and cover the doors/cabinet faces with 3M Dinoc or similar. I see no need to use real wood over existing cabinets. Why bother when the high end architectural films are so realistic and will last better and than real veneer. The cost of 3M Dinoc has me looking at some of the alternates though. So please post lots of pictures!

If you do this vinyl wrap, what would you do with the existing Tambor doors?

I am in the process now of wrapping the doors and cabinets on our 270 with vinyl. I am using Vivvid vinyl that I purchased on eBay. It is a relatively simple process, in most applications. The rounded corners of the doors on our 270 along with the doors having a rubber/vinyl edge banding makes it a little more difficult. They do not come out as sharp and clean as a door with a square corner and veneer edge banding would.
Here are a couple of pics of the first door that I did. I just finished the 2nd door the other night and it went better as I am learning the best way to cut/wrap/stretch the vinyl at the curved corners. So far I am pleased with the results. The vinyl should hold up well as they use it on the exterior of cars, wheels, etc. Time will tell.
At least with the Vivvid vinyl, I have very little money invested in it if I end up having to redo anything at any point.

That looks like it came out really nice. Did you wrap the sides in one piece or cut a small strip and match up the seams?

I don't plan on doing the tambor doors. The counter top right below it is the same shade.

I wrapped the sides. Then I cut a piece to fit on the back and cover up the "returns" from the front wrap. I'll take some more pictures of the finished doors as I go.

I had seen that Vivvid material on eBay and was wondering how it looked compared to the 3M Dinoc. It is quite a bit less money. Let us know how yours turns out (lots of pictures)!. If I was doing a 560DB it would be worth going to the high end 3M, but for my lowly 330DA.....

Sorry guys. I have not been on here in a while. At this point I have scrapped the idea. I like the vivid wrap pics. Looks like it is coming out well.
