our white non-skid on the platform of our 290 has seen better days. It is permanently "dirty" because the gelcoat has worn through in areas, so I'd like to refinish it.

Anyone have any tips? I know I could get the spectrum match for the original and just paint it on but I was thinking it would be better to scrape/sand down the existing non-skid and re-do it with new gelcoat and the non-skid additive.

I would definitely scrape all the old non-skid off before applying more. That should keep it all the same level.

Are you doing this while it's in the water or on the hard? Having an area to stand on while grinding off the old non-skid would make it easier.

Believe me, I love both of those solutions, but the reality is this is boat is probably in its last season with us and I'm not sure we want to spend that kind of cash on it at this point.

It'll be on the hard, if I do it it will be one of my springtime jobs. Interlux sells a quart can with the additive already in it called interdeck. It's like $60 and says it just gets rolled on.

you could get some nice and inexpensive outdoor carpet and make a cover for the platform.....having the edge binded doesn't cost too much and snaps are easy to install to keep it in place....

What type of non-skid pattern is currently there? Pebble or diamond?

It's not the diamond molded non-skid like on the fore and side deck's, so I believe it would be the pebble? It looks like a rough grit sand was added to the gelcoat when applied

The EVA foam on my swimstep is off of Ebay @ $60 per piece. I used 3 or 4 pieces to cover both upper & lower...

Oh wow I didn’t look closely enough I figured seadek. Yours looks great, I might think about that as well
I was quoted $3-4k by a couple of outfits that install SeaDeck... If you look the only real difference is the trim border that on mine is missing. I cleaned the steps, wiped them down with paint thinner, patterns, trim jig and sealed the edges with black 4200 (and lots of masking tape).

Awesome. Ebay makes it look like the seam lines run the opposite direction than you layed it, did you just cut it at a black seam and join them to run it bow to stern?

Yes, pebble... although I'm sure it's called other things, as well. That's good - makes things easier. If you decide to paint (possibly a contrasting color, but leave the margins white?), just give it a quick, rough sand. No need to sand it all down. Wipe with acetone and paint. Most important thing is to make sure it's super clean before painting.

My swim platform has seen better days and looked to be used as a brake a few times around the dock in its 20 years. o_O So I covered it.

It actually made the platform a favorite place to sit and hang out now.

Just as a side note if anyone with a 98 290 DA has some real damage to their swim platform and needs to replace ...... a new one is $2359 + shipping.

That looks great, but being in a non-covered slip with aluminum docks I see the platform covers get obliterated around us. I'd have to get the ladder cut out too, we use it pretty much every time we go out.

for the eva it looks like one sheet would do our platform. I'm just going to order it and see what it looks like before sticking it down, for $50 if I don't like it there I'll use it somewhere else around the house.

It's pretty easy to pop the ladder out even after you jump in the water.

I really like that I don't have any more foot prints to worry about.

Give these folks a call. Saw them on Ship Shape TV.
They might have the pattern already in their system and can send you a finished product ready to be installed.
