After winterizing all systems and feeling pretty good, I thought I would add bilge heater for a little extra comfort. I had not used one of these before and like everything else and being a visual person, I have to see it in action. According to manual, should kick on at 40 degrees and off at 50. I had been to check out the bilge several times with outside air lower than 40 but was never running so obviously getting concerned (although engine is drained and filled with pink stuff). so I had the idea to place a water bottle in compartment and return later to see if frozen and if so, would be my test. Glad to say that yesterday was about 20 degrees and went to inspect, lifted middle engine cover and heard the heater blower and felt the warmth of the bilge compartment. Immediately closed her back up, smiled and cracked a beer :)

I keep a can of 'freeze spray' to test the bilge heater each winter....just a short spray on the thermostat to insure the heat and fan kick on....

I just came back from checking my boat on LKN. When I tested the bilge heater with freeze spray back in November it worked fine. However, I was getting concerned with water temperature dropping into the mid-40s and the overnight air temps predicted to be 15 or so the next few nights. When I opened up the engine room hatch this afternoon the heater was running like a champ. I will check on it again tomorrow and Saturday. It's supposed to warm up starting Sunday...

finally got to the boat this WE and all looked good....the cabin heat was keeping the temp to the set temp of 60* and the bilge heater was keeping the ER around 40*....

I use a wi-fi camera to monitor the display for remote sensors I have in the cabin and ER.....here is a screen shot...

the top number is the ER temp and the bottom is the cabin temp....
